fordmerc
Can’t start the ’41 120 . Problem began suddenly while car running well, coasting down short hill, backfired a couple of times (toward carb?). Towed home. Now won’t start, except for a couple of brief sputters. Fuel is in carb and manifold thus I'm confident fuel pump works well. I dried the plugs. Compression as in past (~100 in all cyl). Spark present and #1 fires at TDC by timing light. No evident dirt in fuel filter or bowl. Carb recently professionally rebuilt (and ran fine). What could go wrong so suddenly? Please suggest next steps since I am at wit’s end.
rb6673
Sounds like ignition condenser.
fordmerc
Condenser and coil replaced; unfortunately, problem persists.
fordmerc
DEFECTIVE CONDENSER was the problem! (because of false starts plugs needed to be cleaned to confirm.) Kudos and thanks to rb6673
