Restorer32
How does one distinguish between a 1949 Hudson Super 6 Series 491 and a 1949 Hudson Commodore Custom 6 Series 492?
Jon37
Easiest way is by looking at the body serial number. If it starts with 491 it's the Super Six. If 492, it's the Commodore Custom Six. You can also look at various trim items like taillights (such as the elongated Commodore taillamps versus the Super Six's rather triangular lamps) or the horn button (wide and horizontal in the Commodores, round in the Super Sixes. However, so many owners ordered the "upscale" trim on their Super Sixes (and subsequent owners often added Commodore trim to their Supers) that this isn't a dependable way of identification. Restorer32
Thank you. Can't believe I didn't make the connection after seeing the 492 as the first 3 digits of the serial number.
