tigersdad
What type of packing is used in replacing the existing on a water pump for a 1930 Packard 726 Sedan? Thanks for the help! Regards, Jay Novato, CA
Owen_Dyneto
Graphited cord packing. If you get Hemmings Motor News you'll find vendors who sell it in split rings like the original, or you can also just go to a plumbing supply store and buy a spool of common pump packing and form it into the cavity yourself. I repacked mine with plumbing store graphited rope about 40 years ago, still performing without issues. Picture below is of a 33/34 but is typical of yours. tigersdad
Owen - Thanks a lot for the help! Is it the 1/8" or 1/4"? Yes, I do take Hemming's so will check it out. Thanks, again! Jay
Owen_Dyneto
The cord is braided so the size really shouldn't make any difference; wrap around the shaft and use the adjustment to form it into place. Add more as needed and again form it into the cavity.
