Wiring harness - tape or split loom or both

You need to use what the factory used so that it looks correct. You didn't state what year your car is.....

If it is a late model with the split loom plastic, use that. If it is a  63, 64 or 65, you would need to use the plastic tape wrap (the kind

that has no adhesive) under the hood, and on the lamp harnesses, the cloth tape with adhesive was used. Also on these cars, the

the cloth fiber tubing was used to protect some of the wiring where chafing was a problem.

Inline Tube has it also

What looks best is up to you. The split loom looks out of place on an old car IMO. As far as protection? Probably about same. A taped harness is more compact and seals the wires from accidental fluid leaks but the plastic loom probably offers slightly better physical protection.

Be careful, there are cheaply made looms that cant handle engine heat. The stuff off the store shelf is garbage.

The real GM deal costs much more and I had to buy it in bulk from Amazon.

(I did my '86 El Camino with it, 3 sizes.)

That goes for the tape as well. Get the Hi Temp 3M tape. ;)
