2249 Dodge Senior manifold colour?

I am restoring  my spare manifold to fit on my Senior later in the year. Would it have been originally enamelled,  painted, not treated and what was the original colour?

If it was done simply and to minimize cost, as the Dodge 8 was, it would be engine colour. The engine was painted with the manifolds in place, exhaust included. The exhaust manifold paint burnt off very soon, of course.

My Senior was manufactured in 1927. where Dodge brothers  engines painted  the same way as Chrysler Dodge's?

Most, if not all mass-producing engine plants painted the engines as stated above with the manifolds on. It would have been labor intensive to add the manifolds later.

I know that it's probably not right but I sand blasted the one off my engine and then painted it with high temp paint the same color as new cast iron

I would do the same thing. I usually use Eastwood gray manifold paint and then cure in the oven.

Thank you everyone  for your input.  Your comments have conformed what I was thinking of using , "cast iron "  or grey colour manifold paint,  (There is a bit of paint on the fuel ports which might be silver or grey.)

When I got my 2249 the manifold had remnants of black paint on it which I think was put on by the second owner who started to restore it and then quit on it.. I sandblasted it and used cast iron paint on it. It looks good but I don't know what it started out looking like.
