junkyardjeff
One would think there is no special tools to work on a 68 Electra interior but there is one for the retaining nut for the glove box lock so if anyone could find the part number for that tool I would appriciate it,I am going to see if I can find one. NTX5467
I believe the Electra is a "C" body, with LeSabres and Wildcats being "B" body platforms. Wasn't aware of a "special tool" needed to remove the glove box key cylinder? BUT there might be "a trick" to getting it out. IF there might be a special tool from the GM Special Tools vendor, if it was not considered to be an "Essential Tool", no dealer would have purchased one OR have kept one over the years. The mechanics, on the other hand, might have purchased one from another tool vendor, IF they needed one. These special tools came from the vendor, not through any GM supply chain. BUICK RACER
No tool needed, I didn't think so here's how to do it:From 1968 GM Fisher Body Manual.img240.pdf
junkyardjeff
Its not the lock cylinder that needs the special tool but its what the shop manual calls the escutcheon that holds the rest of the lock on that needs it.
NTX5467
Now . . . there might be a special tool, as a special spanner wrench socket, to index with small indentations on the escutcheon to unscrew it from the lock cylinder case. Just like the ignition cylinder has the screwed-into escutcheon which holds the ign cyl/switch combo in the instrument panel. IF it's like that, then you might be able to use some C-clip pliers, or similar. What is the motivation to remove the key cylinder from the glove box door. Just curious. junkyardjeff
It came loose on the owner and fell apart and I want to be able to tighten it up where is does not come loose again.
Stu Allen
Try: https://www.opgi.com/riviera/1969/keys-locks/interior-locks-hardware/G241121/This works on 69 Riviera and I suspect it might fit your 68.Stu Allen
