SOLD: 1932 Cadillac V16 Sedan, An Amazing Original Car with 33,000 Actual Miles

Recommended Posts

This 1932 Cadillac Series 452B Sixteen was sold new through Cadillac's New York Branch.  It is one of only approximately 300 V16s built during 1932. The 143" wheelbase chassis is fitted with number 42 of the 56, Fisher-built,  #159 Five-Passenger Sedan bodies.  While the early history of this vehicle is currently unknown, it is believed that this car spent most of its life in the northeast and eventually became part of the Benner Hunt collection. The car was purchased from the Hunt collection by noted collector and V16 enthusiast Gifford Oborne, who retained the car for many years. It was one of several V16s and one of three 1932 V16s that were owned by Oborne at the time of his death. The former owner, a Vermont resident, purchased the vehicle from the Oborne estate auction and placed the car in long term storage. This great, original car was removed from nearly twenty five years of storage last year and immediately sent to the noted V16 Cadillac gurus, Sonny Elliott and Jeff Pearson, who just completed a thorough mechanical servicing.

This is an amazingly well preserved  V16. The mileage shown is just under 33,000, and by all accounts, is original. The car shows virtually no wear. The body and fenders retain their original Thesalon Green paint which remains in very good original condition-especially considering it is 84 years old. The body is super straight, rock solid and tight. The doors open and close like bank vault doors with that nice, solid clunk that one would expect from a well-preserved, original car. The doors fit the body with even gaps and margins throughout. The overall fit is much better than most restored cars. The fenders show no signs of damage or repair and the original running board covers show virtually no wear. The interior is absolutely amazing. The original gray cloth shows hardly any wear considering its age. The seats, door panels, rear bulk head, and headliner are all clean and original. The car retains its original ashtrays, vanities, curtains,  polished wood garnish moldings, etc. The gauges and controls look like new. The steering wheel and pedals show no signs of wear.

Underneath the hood, the firewall retains its original Fisher body plate as well as the original, painted stenciling showing the engine/car number of 1400127, which, of course, matches the number stamped on the engine. The engine retains its proper carburetors, air cleaners, distributor and valley cover. The chassis is nice and original throughout and still retains most of its original paint. The fenders do not appear to have ever been removed from the car. At some point, the wheels were repainted in their original color of Chantilly Green and the tires were replaced.

Mechanically, this car is an absolute pleasure to drive. It starts easily and idles well. The clutch and transmission are smooth as silk. The steering is tight; the brakes are responsive and stop the car square. The car drives down the road straight and true. There are no rattles, creeks or groans. It drives the way a proper 1932 Cadillac should.

This is a great opportunity to purchase a very significant and desirable V16 Cadillac. This car has never been shown and will be a welcomed contender for preservation class judging at any of the nation's leading concours. Better yet, it is a remarkable driving automobile that will be a pleasure to drive on any long distance tours. This car has it all-rarity, desirability, and originality. I doubt you will find a better preserved example that is ready to use and enjoy. The 1932 V16s were much more advanced than their predecessors and are considered to be great driving cars by those who know and enjoy Full Classics. This example is no disappointment and lives up to its reputation. A great opportunity for a serious collector who appreciates special cars and understands the importance of originality. The price is 135,000.00 and the car is currently located near Kansas City, Kansas. Please call 734-730-4274 or email: motoringicons@hotmail.com for additional photos of more information.
