Just wondering if this tour was full yet.  I've tried contacting the tour chairman and registrar at the email addresses listed on my flyer, but all I've gotten is an angry reply from someone stating that he isn't affiliated with the tour and one "mail undeliverable" message.  Any info about whether space is still available and registration details would be greatly appreciated!

For want of an "L" the email was lost...

I tracked Scott down and have sent him the information.

We had several people misspell both my email and the HNR email.  My email has the Old English spelling of home in it, which is "holme".  Leaving out that L sends it to a gentleman who apparently has no interest in classic cars.

The HNR office email has CLT in it, which stands for Charlotte. A few folks typed an "I" in place of the L.  But they all were able to contact me (I think... I hope).  Thanks to Autofair the HNR email has worked well for decades.

Anyway, sorry for the confusion!

Phillip

Spelling does make a difference. If only Microsoft could figure out a way to make a computer do what someone wants it to do instead of what they actually asked it to do...:D

From the year 2056:

HAL, please register me for the Sentimental Tour.

Yes, Dave. Which one of your classic cars do you want to register?

The Bolt, HAL... Why do you ask?

Well, Dave, you know I'm not mind reader!

Phillip, how many slots do think are left for this tour? Mr. "B" of Florida says he wants it full!  :-)

I understand there are still openings for this Sentimental Tour. Don't miss it guys. Philip Cole assured me that you will enjoy yourself....just stay away from Wayne, he said! :)

It may be difficult to stay away from Wayne - if you see a car disabled on the side of the road, and decide to pullover to help, chances are pretty good that Wayne will already be there offering assistance.....

Years ago, he even bought an Essex especially for the Sentimental Tour. As I recall, it looked like a moonshiner's still from certain angles, but he finished the tour with it!

Looking forward to seeing y'all on the Sentimental, as well as all other AACA National and Divisional Tours.

........ and if you are interested, we would like to do a Tour or meet in your area....

He did finish the tour... thanks to another guy who brought another Essex to use as a parts supply for the week. I can't ever let him live that one down. I think by the end of the week the other Essex was about 50 pound lighter with all of the parts that were removed and put on Wayne's car.  :D

Tour folks do help each other out like that. When one car stops by the side of the road, lots of mechanics happen by and can usually get it back underway. If you do enough tours you will probably find yourself needing some help sometime. I once had a beautiful Model A Ford that decided to stop running. Wayne's 1933 Ford Truck might not have looked or sounded that good, but it got me to the trailer for some parts and back to the Model A to get it running again.

Okay, deadline was April 1. We are now 27 days past that, and I need to give a final people/car count to vendors and caterers. So, registration is now closed for 2016 Sentimental Tour.

We have several cars from West of the Mississippi and Canada. With 158 tourists in 72 cars, yes, all the way from 1928 to 1958, it has shaped up to be a great tour.

Thanks to all who have decided to come along for the ride!

Annie,

Why not drive over, visit, and maybe catch a ride?

You two are always welcome in our backseat!

What are the day time temperatures like in this area in June. I have had my windshield riser rebuilt but never installed it yet. So would this be a good reason to get it done before I go?

Average June high temperature for that area is 86 degrees.

Let's see if my old '39 Buick and our old bodies can handle 86 degrees.  Thank God for the backup electric fuel pump, fuel line insulation and all that.  It's there to combat Ethanol.  I never ever had a vapor lock in that car since I bought it in 1963 until Ethanol came along.  Yuck Ethanol.

Well, the good news is Jerry's Shell about 2 miles from the host hotel has "100 % gasoline", which is what they call non ethanol  nowadays.

But the bad news is the long range forecast  has highs in the low 90s, 4 degrees above the average.

My disclaimer is that I originally suggested May or September dates... ?

The weather forecast is looking interesting. It looks like it will be even hotter than the earlier forecast called for but the humidity looks like it will be lower than expected.

We drove 232 miles today, which included about 4 hours in 90+ degree weather. Most of it was at highway speeds with only a stop for fuel. The 1937 Century ran well but it has been a long time since I spent that long in a car without air conditioning in that type of heat. Here are a few photos of some of the cars in the parking lot this evening.

Looks like everyone is having a great time. We are definitely eating good! The train, North Carolina, went by while we were eating at the historic Salisbury Depot yesterday. Got to see production lines at Dennis Carpenter's today.

All the shade tree mechanics are working in the parking lot this afternoon. ?

This morning we toured the Dennis Carpenter Museum and Production Facility. After Lunch we toured AutoBarn Classic Cars. I skipped the Gibson Mill Antiques Mall. Here are some photos from today. I saw Phillip's post while I was uploading these photos. I guess I need to head out to the parking lot and see what is happening. The parking lot mechanic work is usually lots of fun.

Today we toured Historic Gold Hill NC. After Gold Hill, we went to the Morgan Ridge Vineyards and Brewhouse where we had another great Buffet lunch. I was able to enjoy lunch and a nice conversation with Forum Member 'Joe in Canada'. I have a couple of photos of his beautiful Red and Silver 1930 Cadillac in the Morgan Ridge parking lot.

Just to give you an example of how touring folks treat each other, the trouble truck brought this car in today. Luckily the trouble truck dropped it in the shade just outside the hotel lobby. Scott Deno, who is not the owner of this car, as well as a few others went to work. The points and condenser got changed. After a while it was determined that the new coil that was first tried was actually defective. Scott changed back to the old coil and with a good coil and the new points and condenser, the car now runs perfectly.

We took a Trolley Tour of Historic Downtown Sailsbury this morning. From the air conditioned trolley we got a nice educational narrated tour but it was a bit difficult to get good photos. Here are the few photos that I did take. There is an optional afternoon tour to Mocksville but my wife is not feeling well today so we are going to skip that. Hopefully someone else will post some photos of that later.

We drove back over to the NC Transportation Museum for our closing banquet. Then we rode the Trolley from the main parking lot back to the Roundhouse for the banquet. When we first arrived they were running Steam Engine J611 up towards the parking lot and then back near the roundhouse. Since I know of several AACA members who are very interested in that particular train, I took a bunch of photos. Here are those photos as well as a few others from the banquet. It was a fun tour, despite some unexpected warm weather. Tomorrow I will finish the week with a 4 hour drive back home in my 1937 Buick Century.

We made it back home in time for lunch, having traveled a little over 200 miles on the trip home today. I am very happy with the way my 1937 Buick Century performed for the week. The trip home was at least 15 degrees cooler than the trip up on Sunday. It was very a very comfortable trip home today. I am working on laundry and getting caught up reading the week's newspapers and mail. Hopefully I will be finished with that later tonight.

Had a great time good weather met many new people. Hornets Nest did an over the top job event, THANKS

But the best part was the drive home through Pa. A fellow was looking at my car when we stopped for dinner last night and told me he has a car in his basement to sell. He wanted us to come back the next day but I talked him into letting us following him home as I would be back in Canada the next day. There was actually three Fords and his son was there and he wants no part of them either. Now to make a deal for the three of them if we can. Did I mention he is 92 and put them away before we went to WW11 in 1941. Hard to take pictures for the clutter and the dust from moving things around. Now this is a basement find!2016-06-17 sentamental tour 019.JPG2016-06-17 sentamental tour 002.JPG2016-06-17 sentamental tour 024.JPG2016-06-17 sentamental tour 012.JPG2016-06-17 sentamental tour 030.JPG2016-06-17 sentamental tour 043.JPG2016-06-17 sentamental tour 007.JPG2016-06-17 sentamental tour 020.JPG
