AnniesSS
Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving! This weekend, my inlaws gave my husband and I their Honda CB160 that's been sitting in their garage for maybe 40-odd years! The good thing - it was in the garage so the rust isn't too bad.... the bad thing, the battery leaked and caused some damage. Oh well. But i think we have a decent bike to start restoring to first driveable condition, then possibly onto a full restoration to start showing. I'm quite excited to start working on this, although I know it will be a bit more time so we can get past the holidays, etc. I also want to do some more research on it etc. My first question - how can you tell what year it is? My mother in law thought it was a 1964-65, but after doing a bit of reading, they didn't build these until 1965. The vin doesn't tell us anything about the year of the bike. I'm open to all ideas, suggestions and places to buy parts etc. Thanks for all of your help in advance
nzcarnerd
Have a look here - http://www.hondatwins.net/forums/45-miscellaneous-discussion/40088-cb160-vin-year-production.html - and there are a few more threads on the subject on the same site. Seems the model was introduced late '64 and your number looks to be fairly early.

JZRIV
That looks like a worthy project for sure plus its great there is family attachment. Consider joining the Antique Motorcycle Club of America (AMCA). http://www.antiquemotorcycle.org/Membership is an excellent value. Older Jap bikes are becoming more popular every year in the club.
