1926 Chrysler colours

G70

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have a 1926 Chrysler 70 Phaeton and I'm starting to restore it. Does anyone know which colour options there was that time? I also would like to know did the seats originally have black or brown leather?

Cheers,

Ville

Hi Ville,

I'm also restoring a 1926 model G70 Phaeton. My body came from Australia but appears to have been Canadian assembled, it still has original paint on large parts of the body and there were small bits of upholstery on the one door. This car was a dark ash grey, the belt molding was black and there was a red pinstripe about half an inch below the belt molding. The bit of upholstery was very old green rexine. I don't know if the upholstery had been replaced, but the paint is definitely factory.

I restored a 1928 Chrysler tourer years ago, it's original paint was dawn grey (grey with greenish hint) with black belt moldings and a blue oblong panel in the doors and pillars, red pinstripe on the belt moldings.

I also had a rear body section from what I think was a model 60 tourer, the rear body was dark green, it had its original back seat, the upholstery was black and appeared to be Bison hide?? It was leather, but the grain was too rough for cow hide. Maybe someone might know if Chrysler used American Buffalo hide?

Another original 1927 Model 50 tourer I restored was light Grey with black belt molding and a red pinstripe half an inch under the belt molding. This car had black leather seats with black rexine everywhere else.

There was a lovely G70 at Hershey last year, it was concourse, painted blue with black belt line and black leather upholstery. It had been in the same family from new and been meticulously restored.

If you are replacing your wood or upholstery, please may I ask you for lots of pictures of the front seat backrest wood frame, mine is missing. Also any pictures of the main wooden floor frame please. If you replace the seat wood I'd be interested in your old wood for samples. I have all the door pillar, door and rear tub wood and the two main body side frame wood, but not too sure about the floorboards and cross pieces. I have two metal pans which I think go under the front and rear seats, not sure,

Many thanks

Regards

Viv.
