Vifa
Hi,I have been looking at a Cadillac Coupe De Ville 1955, but need some help to know what I should look for on these cars. I will try to list some of the things I have stumbled across, and hopefully some of your experts can answer them for me. :-)I believe there should be a VIN located on the car somewhere, but the seller told me there never were a VIN on these cars - only engine number. Is that right ?I took a picture of the body plate, and it reads the following: Style No: 55-6237DXBody No: FW14122Trim No: 65Paint No: 84-90Top:Acc: E-H-YI can't seem to figure out the accessories. The car is equipped with radio, power windows, power brakes and power seats - but the bodyplate says E-H-Y which I have decoded to the following:E: E-Z Eye GlassH: HeaterY: Electric verticle seat lift option on 62 Conv., dV, 60 Specials.Best RegardsVifa Edited November 21, 2015 by Vifa (see edit history)
K8096
The VIN# is stamped on the frame somewhere, I think it's on the drivers top side of the frame by the engine dip stick. It's usually covered with grease & you'll have to hunt for it. This number should match the engine number if it has the original engine in it. The engine number is stamped on the passenger side of the block on a flat spot right in front of the valve cover.

D Yaros
The VIN is indeed stamped on the top of the frame rail. However, it is on the passenger side, not the driver. You will find it behind the generator housing and close to mid-engine. It may be hard to see/read, but it is there.
