JACK M
I like that sound as well.Maybe some headers and a 2 1/2 or 3 inch system with resonators only.Funny how it never sounds like it gets above idle.
Guest BillP
Both the exhaust and the horn reminded me of a '37 LaSalle convertible I had. It was completely, beautifully, professionally restored, but for some reason it had a one-off muffler on it. It looked like a piece of 4 inch pipe with caps and adapters welded on the ends. I don't think it had any stuffing or baffles. It had the same sort of rumbley bark that Bluto's car has. Flathead V8s seem to have a distinctive sound anyway. I replaced it with a proper muffler. And the horn had that deep, melodic tone that makes other motorists know it's not a Ford that's coming around to pass.

Rusty_OToole
Sounds like a flathead six with no muffler. If you have a "vintage" car you could try a straight thru muffler aka "Hollywood" muffler or even a Thrush muffler. The speedster in Topper had a similar sound, so did a lot of 30s cars if you put a loud muffler on them or no muffler. Guest Bob Call
Wimpy was the hamburger addict in the Popeye cartoons. Best known for his line asking for credit to get a hamburger. When I was a kid there was a "Wimpy's" burger joint on East Dewey street (U.S. Route 66) in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. It was in an old street car with the wheel trucks removed and sat on the ground. Sometimes I was treated with a burger there when the family went to "town" on Saturday to shop at Safeway and Kress's (got a package of roll caps for my cap pistol and/or BB's for my Daisy) and get a week's supply of meat from the frozen food locker rented at the meat processing plant. http://images.search.yahoo.com/images/view;_ylt=AwrTcXcqOhxWkXQANHE2nIlQ;_ylu=X3oDMTIyZTVpZTF0BHNlYwNzcgRzbGsDaW1nBG9pZANhMDA5ZDBhYmE4YWYwN2I4MmVjYzVmZTliMGI4MjcwZQRncG9zAzgEaXQDYmluZw--?.origin=&back=http%3A%2F%2Fimages.search.yahoo.com%2Fyhs%2Fsearch%3Fp%3DWimpy%2BHamburger%2BQuote%26fr%3Dyhs-iry-fullyhosted_003%26hsimp%3Dyhs-fullyhosted_003%26hspart%3Diry%26tab%3Dorganic%26ri%3D8&w=228&h=185&imgurl=bexy723.files.wordpress.com%2F2008%2F03%2Fwimpy1.jpg&rurl=http%3A%2F%2Fbexy723.wordpress.com%2F2008%2F03%2F15%2Fwimpy%2F&size=41.0KB&name=%3Cb%3EWimpy%3C%2Fb%3E!+|+A+Look+Into+the+Mind+of+A+Crazy%2C+Sleepy+Beskies&p=Wimpy+Hamburger+Quote&oid=a009d0aba8af07b82ecc5fe9b0b8270e&fr2=&fr=yhs-iry-fullyhosted_003&tt=%3Cb%3EWimpy%3C%2Fb%3E!+|+A+Look+Into+the+Mind+of+A+Crazy%2C+Sleepy+Beskies&b=0∋=21&no=8&ts=&tab=organic&sigr=11era71k6&sigb=14i9n4jve&sigi=11erj4sj2&sigt=11v4eggbi&sign=11v4eggbi&.crumb=Bqsy8ud3Ypc&fr=yhs-iry-fullyhosted_003&hsimp=yhs-fullyhosted_003&hspart=iry http://images.search.yahoo.com/images/view;_ylt=AwrTcXtLOhxWhP4AZ1E2nIlQ;_ylu=X3oDMTIzMTNtM25lBHNlYwNzcgRzbGsDaW1nBG9pZAM3NTk4Y2NiNGM4YmE3OTk3NjgxZTUzM2Y5N2UwMDM4MgRncG9zAzg4BGl0A2Jpbmc-?.origin=&back=http%3A%2F%2Fimages.search.yahoo.com%2Fyhs%2Fsearch%3Fp%3DWimpy%2BHamburger%2BQuote%26fr%3Dyhs-iry-fullyhosted_003%26hsimp%3Dyhs-fullyhosted_003%26hspart%3Diry%26nost%3D1%26tab%3Dorganic%26ri%3D88&w=500&h=396&imgurl=www.myusualgame.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2014%2F02%2Fwimpy-and-popeye.png&rurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.myusualgame.com%2F2014%2F03%2F&size=55.3KB&name=March+|+2014+|+My+Usual+Game%3A+David+Owen&p=Wimpy+Hamburger+Quote&oid=7598ccb4c8ba7997681e533f97e00382&fr2=&fr=yhs-iry-fullyhosted_003&tt=March+|+2014+|+My+Usual+Game%3A+David+Owen&b=61∋=112&no=88&ts=&tab=organic&sigr=1136uc2q7&sigb=14qj66ps0&sigi=1239mraai&sigt=118lshpb2&sign=118lshpb2&.crumb=Bqsy8ud3Ypc&fr=yhs-iry-fullyhosted_003&hsimp=yhs-fullyhosted_003&hspart=iry
