pay pal fraude

Hello,

 

someone from the states offered to buy one of my motorcycle.  she ask if possible can pay with paypal and after bike would be picked up.

could this be a fraude? how does it work.

asked for name, adres, Phone and PayPal acount.

The woman clames she wants to buy for her son in UK.

 

i find it suspisious?

Her son was a marine biologist at sea when she wanted to buy my Cutler roll top desk for him.

 

The woman buying for her son is a common scam.

 

You find it suspicious; and why might that be?

Ignore her request! She is a scammer of course. Tell her you want pounds or dollars in your hands or no deal. Wayne

The refund policies of Pay Pal make this scam possible.  You send the goods.  The "buyer" claims to PayPal that it was not as represented.  Pay Pal suspends your payment, but the goods are gone.

                     Unless your bike is worth 6 figures, I think you should reconsider.

This is the electronic/information age so these type of transactions are more and more common. Expecting a buyer from overseas to bring cash to place in your hand is a little unrealistic. So if you take the time to learn how this system works in can be very beneficial, very safe and open up an entire new field of buyers for you.

PayPal's protection policy is VERY good. 

Both for the buyer and the seller. They can act as an escrow between long distance buyers. I sell quite a few of my cars through eBay and always ask for a $500 deposit through PayPal to lock the deal.

I have used them on many vehicle transactions without problem. I've sold cars to the Netherlands, Australia, Austria and Germany. As a matter of fact, I just sold one of my "38 Plymouths to buyer in Germany last week and the simplest way for both of us was to handle the entire transaction through Paypal. The only down side is that Paypal can take up to 9% so the buyer included that extra percentage with his transfer. It all went smoothly and worked out perfectly. Payment was instant. The next morning I transferred those funds directly into my bank. 

If this buyer is offering to pay you up front, where is your risk?

The scam is that paypal can take the funds back from you for a certain time period, and you will be out the funds and the merchandise. One of the most often listed reasons that people don't like to sell on ebay or use paypal anymore, the risk is entirely on the seller/money receiver.

Wel Greg, that is wat i was thinking to.  But it seems here that the money could be redrawn......... so that is the scam.

I asked just to pay in my acount, but for some reason she does not like to do that, even it is just as safe.

 

Dont want to take the risk money and bike gone.  I just want to sel because i could use the money.

This changes things a bit in my mind, she may very well prefer the protection she is offered as a buyer by PayPal, but as the seller you set the terms and if you want the money paid into your account she should be willing to do so, otherwise your terms have not been met and you simply move on to the next buyer. The "buying for my son" angle is also troublesome as it is a common scam as others have said, primarily in that it gives the "buyer" reason to be uneducated about an expensive item they are buying, and not sound suspicious when they have no idea what your motorcycle is.

I wouldn't use pay pal for any large amount like a car or bike.  My wife just got burned by ebay and pay pal on a transaction.   A buyer bought a box lot of stuff she was selling which she had no knowledge of.  It was a flat rate full.  He actually bought 2.  (top bidder)  she started them at 9.99 no reserve and they sold for around 100  each.  the only thing she guaranteed is the boxes were full and took a picture of the contents.  She sold several of these lots and the other buyers probably about 20 left her great feedback stating they were pleased and she delivered exactly what she promised. This buyer said alot of the boxes were empty even though the flat rate weighed probably 5-7 lbs.  I'm pretty sure the buyer cherry picked the stuff (as I know my wife and she doesn't pack empty boxes) and then wanted to return what was left.  A case was opened, she asked for photos of the empty boxes.  He said he sent 18 photos.  Of which she never received any.  I looked at the responses in the claim and none contained attachments.  When she said she didn't receive the photos he immediately escalated it to a decision.  Ebay never asked my wife a single question and found for him in a few minutes.  They then automatically gave him postage paid labels charged to her and he supposedly shipped them back.  Where to, we are still trying to find out as we received no tracking information.   Ebay now says they show as delivered and automatically refunded his full purchase and shipping.  Not even asking her if the items were received or if they were in the condition as they were when shipped.  So if for any reason the buyer is unhappy,  figure it the same as escrow services I see being pushed in a major publication,  he can get his money back and you may be out the item and the cash.  Plus pay pal still gets their fee all be it small, for handling your business.

Remember the buyer will always be right regardless of how clueless or how much of an idiot / liar they want to be even when you are completely professional in handling the transaction.
