Vintage Ford Styling Art / Illustrations - George de Angelis - Seeking Information

Recommended Posts

Hi,
Looking to learn more about two recent finds - Both originate from the estate of Ford employee George de Angelis: Biography here: http://blog.thehenryford.org/2014/12/remembering-george-deangelis/

1) An extremely detailed hand-painted illustration of a car dashboard (most likely a Ford). The material is a laminated type paper mounted to a thick artist's board with a paper cover. I'm not sure whether the illustration is done over or under the lamination. This piece is unsigned and I am not sure if it was done by George de Angelis or given to him by another colleague in design or advertising.

Based on the subject matter and appearance of the piece, I believe this is either a piece of styling studio art, or something that might have been used in advertising (sales brochure, showroom album, etc). However, I'm not sure.

Does anyone know the following (or have any educated guesses?):
-The artist and / or year it was made (guessing 1940s or 1950s)

-Which car model this dash would be from - is it a production car or a fantasy styling proposal

- Has anyone seen a similar type of illustration before - any ideas on the history (styling art, advertising, student design contest, etc)

2) An exceptionally detailed pencil illustration of an engine (almost certainly Ford). The illustration is done on onion skin. This piece is signed by de Angelis and dated 11-9-46. Most likely a hobby piece rather than something used by Ford. Does anyone know the engine type illustrated?

Really appreciate any opinions!

Mike

The dashboard illustration appears to be of a 1950 Ford dashboard.

The engine illustration appears to be of a 4 cylinder horizontally opposed aircraft engine, perhaps a Continental or Lycoming.

Those are some great looking works of art that you have.

Cheers,

Grog
