benjamin j
I remember reading about auburns, cords, and or Duisenberg’s being used for a temporary dam in auburn Indiana. I think it may have been just auburns or cords. There was an article in the auburn museum on this topic. Last night I was looking around on the internet for that story and could not find anything on it. I know a lot of the cars were experimental or prototypes and they had v12s and some had v16s. Do any of you guys know much of this story or where to find more info?
Guest
The only cars involved were some Cord 810 prototypes / "show cars" convertible bodys. These were cars built in 1935 (36 models) for various big car manufacturers' shows and for dealer display. Some were not operable. Many of the sedans were updated and later sold to employees at discounts. The convertibles were not useable as they lacked the necessary added bracing/structure to make them safe as "real" cars. Some of these convertible bodys were used as fill in a dam / flood control project on the Rock River in Connersville, Indiana ( site of Cord 810/812 production). In 1980, some enthusiasts unearthed what was left of one. Josh Malks wrote several books about the Cord 810/812, and he recounts the story in those books. Guest
Here's the actual body that was unearthed. Not a good restoration candidate. https://www.flickr.com/photos/djck/9629993665/in/photolist-fEYeBx-fF63Vq-fBqNEx-fzNsxx-fvDYwu-fvpH38-fvpBk4-fvpBfr-fvpBbF-fskmky-fnnxxN-fnnxtf-fnnxqo-fn8myP-fnnxdN-fn8mmt-fnnx6u-fnnx2f-fnnwX7-fnnwTs-fnnwQy-fnnwLL-fnnwFU-fnnwCL-fnnwrC-fnnwoj-fn8kvV-fn8kka-fnnw3W-fn8kaB-fn8k6F-fn8k2Z-fnnvNq-fnnvKq-fnnvFJ-fnnvCs-fn8jJM-fn8jFx-fnnvpA-fnnvk1-fnnvfN-fnnvbb-fn8jhk-fn8jeg-fnnuYy-fnnuUL-fnnuRm-fn8iXM-fn8iU4-fn8iNn/ Edited October 20, 2015 by Guest (see edit history)

60FlatTop
I'm pretty sure that story was in Old Cars Weekly a couple of decades ago. It might have made it into one of their "Best Of" annuals back then.Bernie
smithbrother
Well, a few gallons of BONDO might restore it. I know many pieces have been BLOTCHED UP with many methods. Wads of steel wool, gobbes of newspaper, just a few. Might make for a goood thread, WHAT HAVE YOU FOUND THAT WAS USED TO PATCH/HIDE ISSUES in a car?Dale in Indy
capngrog
Dale, " Might make for a goood thread, WHAT HAVE YOU FOUND THAT WAS USED TO PATCH/HIDE ISSUES in a car?" Well, are you going to start the thread? I think that it would be a VERY interesting thread. Grog
