Keith L.
After sitting for ten years, I'm going to look at my brake and master cylinders. I rebuilt them ten years ago, but sat in storage. I still have foot pressure, and I don't see any leaks by the wheels, but I don't trust them. If I need a rebuild kit, are they the same as early Ford? Who make the best? Any advice appreciated. Thanks, Keith
Phil Knapp
I'm sure that they are the same as Ford. I rebuilt the wheel cylinders on my '41 Continental using stock Ford rebuild kits.Any reputable parts store should have quality kits. I'd stay away from the "volume discount" stores! 19tom40
If you have had DOT 3 brake fluid in the system for 10 years, you may have some serious rust problems. Before you invest in the kits, it would be wise to check at least one wheel cylinder and the master cylinder for rust pitting that would require replacing the cylinder. John_Mc
Yes, can't say for the 41's, but normally new cylinders are so cheap, I would not risk honing. Just get new ones.
Ron K.
I bought all of my '40 Cabriolet brake parts to include wheel cylinders, Master, shoes, seals and flex lines from Earl O. Brown, he is a great guy to deal with and will ship out the parts trusting you to pay when you receive them. I was lucky my metal brake lines were in good shape. I use DOT 5 (silicone) which has worked well for me on my cars for years. Ron
DSpringer
I dug into my brake system about 4 years ago after it sat for over 30 years. The fluid was like putty. I honed the slave cylinders and replaced the master cylinder. Our little Napa shop had the master cylinder in stock and seals for the slave cylinders, which I honed. They work great but I worry about the rubber lines failing on mountain roads. Good to know Earl has them. Dave
