Positive Ground!

The ground is determined by where you put the cables on the battery. A 6 volt battery is just a 6 volt battery. Go to NAPA for a 6 volt battery. You will find the original under the driver's side floor.

Yes....the coil should be mounted on the back of the ignition switch, similar to my 1931 unit.

I think he means, where is the battery on the car? My guess is, under the front floor boards. There should be a removable cover plate in the floor someplace. Correct me if I am wrong.

Tractor supply places sell 3 sizes of batteries that fit most old 6V cars. Measure your battery box and pick the most suitable one. For extra money you can buy an Optima or similar, better than the old lead box if you plan on keeping it for a few years.

Curious what year this is? Have you got an engine # or a frame? Sometimes it is on the registration. Does not appear to be a DA 6 engine.

While looking at your profile I noticed the headlites and wonder if they are original to that vehicle. They appear to be sealed beam.

Where are you located? Iam in calif.

The car is a 1930 DD6 and appears to have 1936 Dodge Brothers headlamp buckets that have been turned into sealed beams. The radiator cap is from a 1930 Plymouth.

Your engine number is on the flat pad just below the cylinder head on the front, driver's side of the engine block. The number should start with the letters, "DD"....the raised numbers that you show are the casting numbers, not the engine numbers.

Yes...the first and last photos with the number that you show is the engine number. The center photo is of the FEDCO plate which acts as the serial number for the car

Thanks again for your quick reply Keiser.

I cant seem to find any thing on the net that verifys a 4 door sedan 1930 dodge brothers with those numbers on it.  fedco or engine number.

Any suggestions ?   this is the closet thing I found

189.8 ci 1930 61 Dodge S, DD 1930 60 DeSoto S, CK 1931 61 Dodge S, DD 1931 60 DeSoto S, CK 1932 61 Dodge S, DD 1933 70 Plymouth S, All

I am in Sacramento. I have earilier DB in my truck and It is a DA-6. Chrysler Corp. took over Dodge Bros in the late 20's. Your engine is quite different then my DA-6.

Be sure and check out the Northern CA chapter of the Dodge Bros Cub. There are members in the bay area with similiar cars.

Yes I tried that too. I get six volts in , and 3 volts out that way for some reason.  testing from the positive to top of engine head, and then from the neg to the top of engine head.

when I first wired it . I was getting 6 volts in and 6 volts out.

ohm test on coil with no power shows its still good. its a new bwd E5 coil.
