Guest pauldridge
I purchased new king pin set from Kanter for my '40 series 90 limited. My suspension guy (and confirmed by the manual) thinks a reamer is necessary for the king pin bushings when installing. The king pins on the S90 are 1.06" diameter, roughly. Can anyone suggest a source for such a reamer (or has one to rent or loan?) Phil AuldridgeAustin, TX512 517-0055
Buicknutty
I've done this two ways, first time I made a smaller pilot pin out of an old kingpin, and used a compound to lap the bushing to size. Tricky to get it right, but I did, though time consuming. Next time, I bought an adjustable reamer from a machine shop supply place, set it up, and reamed to size. Worked perfect, and way easier than my first method. From time to time, I have seen reamers that are made to the correct size for these pins, but I do not know where to get one. Hope this helps! jvelde
I used a reamer for brake cylinders to do mine.
Bleach
I used to just take them to the machine shop. I'm not sure if anyone does them anymore.
Tom_S
Call around to various repair shops and you will find someone who has a set of King pin reamers and will do them for you at a reasonable price. I had my suspension off the car and carried them to the man who did a beautiful job of sizing them. You not only need the reamer, but also the guide bushings that come in the set. An adjustable reamer will also work using the 2 bushings simultaneously to keep the reamer straight removing little metal at a time until just barely a slip fit. You can use a cylinder hone to do the final slip fit if necessary. Tom
jbbuick22
Keith, McMaster-carr sells adjustable reamers. I have one, used it several times. John
