sherwood3333
ok I got the exhaust valve fixed, took the 49 for a test ride, now the tailpipe sounds like a vacume cleaner when I drive down the street! anybody know why it sounds like that
Bhigdog
A little known fact is that there were a very few 49's produced with engines made by either Electrolux or Hoover. If you have one the sound is normal. You can tell one of these engines by the fact that the air cleaner is a bag type. That and the garage floor never seems to need a sweeping.............Bob
TexasJohn55
Bob is correct but if you have the straight eight, maybe the flapper valve is stuck closed or there is a restriction in piping or muffler.
60FlatTop
The Electrolux was reintroduced in the 1970's as the LeSabre Luxus. The Luxus name came from a marketing study suggesting customers were resistant to adjacent "u"'s as in vacuum.Bernie

60FlatTop
It's not good to work on a running car in an air conditioned garage with the door closed.Bernie
