1939 Shocks

Hello fellows:

I completed restoring a 1939 Series 40 business coupe a few years ago.

It had a few issues at first but they have been solved by now...mostly.

As the shocks were weak and worn, I just got a complete set from Apple to replace the old ones.

Regarding the rear ones I have a question: my car has tube type shocks at the rear but as I now have the origianl lever type I want to install those instead..

Problem is there is no place I can bolt them on to (maybe the brackets were removed in the past and simply replaced by the tubes shocks.)

What I need is help towards the fitment of these lever shocks. Maybe someone could send me detailed photos of a correct installation and of what parts I am missing? I could then make up the supports as I don't have them.

Let's hope someone can help!

By the way, I am located in Valparaiso, Chile

On my '39, the rear shocks bolt directly to the frame, holes drilled in the frame at the factory. No bracket needed. The '38 series 40 I have been told actually used  tubular rear shocks. I have not looked at a '38. The links that connect the end of your arm on the shock are available at Bob's Automobiia (www.bobsautomobilia.com)

Good luck in your restoration.

Gary

Thanks DonMicheletti, Gmorse and 39BuickEight for steering me in the right direction. :)

I still have a doubt though and that is where and how are the links connected to the rear axle? Can anyone provide a photo showing that?

I did see the many photos of the restoration of that great 39 Down Under (years ago the first time) but I found no picture depicting just this.

Also, yes, I am considering joing the 30Buick guys!

Thanks!

Lars
