The red '66 Impala SS Sport Coupe parked in the garage next to our '40 Roadmaster was built at Doraville the first week of April, 1966. He told of when they brought the stamping machines in they had to close I-285 and rebuild part of the roadway in order to get them moved in. I could sense the nostalgia and what felt like walking on hollowed ground as I read the article. It is hard to see history of this magnitude that influenced the entire area for those that worked at this factory be taken down. 38Buick 80C Posted July 24, 2015 Share Posted July 24, 2015 OK so I haven't said anything about it but there is another BCA connection to the Doraville site. 20 Acres was sold to my employer, I am managing the redevelopment of that section of the site into 2 car dealerships and a collision center (not a Buick dealership...sorry). It's a very exciting project for my company and this will be a show piece dealership complex for us. It is the largest construction project in our history, and one of the largest I've ever done in my 12 year auto retail construction management career. I shared Lamar's article with my boss, peers and my employees as well as the design and construction team working on the project so they could appreciate the history of the site. Must say I was surprised as it has been so long since the article came out. And if Pete Phillips is reading, THANK YOU!!! I really feel honored as there have been so many articles since it that were surely better than mine. But hey, I will gladly accept it. One reason it means so much to me is that for years I encouraged my daughter to pursue a BS then a masters in English or Journalism. She did and is now enjoying writing and editing at RedHat in Raleigh. Can't wait to let her see what her ol' "daddio" received. So Brian, I have not been by the site since the auction. Makes one wonder what else will be changed from the original plans of developing the city within the city. So I suppose you visit your project pretty often. If I ever come that way I may give you a buzz and let you give me a tours of your project. 38Buick 80C Posted August 3, 2016 Share Posted August 3, 2016 My PM on this project has been out on maternity leave so yeah I have been there a lot the past 12 weeks. She came back today, so I am there Friday and then again Monday, but probably not a lot again until end of the year.
