5219
They do show up on Ebay from time to time. I found one there
Curti
I believe in the mid 30's the tach's were mechanical. Cable driven like a speedometer.
CarlLaFong
If your speedo works and you know your rear end ratio, you can use a speed/RPM calculatorhttp://wahiduddin.net/calc/calc_speed_rpm.htm

JACK M
Most timing lights these days will let you do that. You will probably have to carry a 12 volt battery.
ply33
If your speedo works and you know your rear end ratio, you can use a speed/RPM calculatorhttp://wahiduddin.net/calc/calc_speed_rpm.htmAnd if your speedo doesn't work you can use a handheld GPS or a GPS app on your smartphone to tell what your speed is. Guest MORRISGAUGE
6 volt tachometers are available and they did make 6 volt tachometers during that time period, but for a simple testing/repair unit, Westach would be a good option. www.morrisgauge.com
60FlatTop
Use an inductive timing light with a tach function. Just set a small 12V battery within cable length for power. I have done it in the garage a lot.Bernie

Matt Harwood
I bought a cheap electronic tachometer that works on 6 volts on Amazon or something like that. It was about $50 and uses an internal battery and an inductive lead that you clip on a spark plug wire. It's not permanent but it'll give you an idea of engine speed while you drive. It's kind of a piece of crap and sometimes doesn't work, but I used it while testing my overdrive unit on my '29 Cadillac. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002Z32OHW/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_1/176-7861759-5344130?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_r=1W9A3NJHNPXG626PSQPS&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_p=1944687462&pf_rd_i=B00HB5WR8A Edited July 19, 2015 by Matt Harwood (see edit history)
