DAVID BABCOCK
I NEED TO FIND WHERE I CAN GET A REPLACEMENT ROPE RAIL ON MY 1933 ROCKNE. THE ROPE IS NOT IN BAD SHAPE BUT THERE IS A SPRING INSIDE THE ROPE AND ITS RUSTED AND BROKE. ANY IDEAS? THANKS.
studeq
Actually it is referred to as a robe rail inasmuch as a lap robe was used in winter when most cars did not have heaters. Just thought you might want to know. By the way I do have a very nice original Studebaker accessory robe used in the '31 cars. Has the Studebaker name on the label. Guest 32mod55
I used to see big long screen door springs in the hardware stores, would something like that fit inside? Or maybe a bungee cord. There are spring manufacturers that will make any size custom spring for you, but i doubt it would be inexpensive!
Stude Light
I have these two if you are interested. Looks like the ends are different from yours - I'm not sure which model/year they are from.Scottsmrdeza@lentel.com
Stude Light
Looks like the "rope" robe rails pictured above are two short for David so if anyone needs them....they are 32-1/4" when pulled straight from center-to-center of the mounting holes.Scottsmrdeza@lentel.com David - Sorry to hi-jack your post for an advertisement
starlightcoupe
My all original '33 Rockne Standard has a static nickle plated robe bar, as opposed to flexible "rope". I would be curious, as these little details fascinate me.
Thoffs
My 1933 Studebaker Rockne 4Dr Sedan Deluxe has the robe rail just like David was inquiring about. Mine does not spring back. I took the hardware off the ends and had them rechromed, then I took color remover from a fabric store and soaked it overnight. It came out very good and matches my new interior.
