Guest Dale in Vancouver
Hi all. I'm looking at installing power vents in my '64. The car has the standard interior and am wondering where the switches were mounted. Advice appreciated. Thanks, Dale.
RivNut
The vent window switch is a separate switch that moves horizontally rather than vertically. It has it's own cut out in the same panel as the other window switches. Two switches for the driver's side, one on the passengers side. Rear window switches will work on the passenger's side but they would move up and down rather than left and right. Best if you can find a donor car and get the complete setup - door panels, motors, switches, and wiring. The wiring harness is part of the main window harness so you have to either get the entire harness or cut it out or splice new wires to the old terminals. Guest Dale in Vancouver
Thanks a lot Ed, much appreciated. I recently got a fair deal on motors and harness, with some window switches as well. Didn't occur to me about the horizontal movement. Now ,of course, the cutouts for the manual cranks create a new problem. I had thought of seeing if the switches might fit in their place (not original, I know) Decisions, decisions, -- maybe I'm getting to old to be faced with such mammoth problems !! Oh well, another beer, and a good night's sleep might sort it all out. Cheers, Dale.
rivgs
Dale, The power vent switches should be located about the same spot as the crank holes, so don't sweat that. Finding the correct drivers door switch may be a problem though ( not many cars with standard interior and power vents ) .
rivgs
Ed and Dale, On using rear window switches for the passenger door, just rotate the switch 90 degrees.
RivNut
The housing only bolts in one way and I haven't figured out how to pull the terminal from the housing to rotate it. That ones on my bucket list. Ed PS - My bad; I didn't read the opening post closely enough to notice that the vents were being installed in a standard interior car.
Guest Dale in Vancouver
Hi Kevin. Many thanks for that information, it makes things fairly straightforward now, as the seller kindly supplied suitable switches.Ed, Hi again. No problem, although I had difficulty picturing a six gang line of switches in my driver's door panel ! Cheers, Dale.
