Rod Frazier
Good Morning: Has anyone replaced the window seals on a '40 sedan? I bought the kit, but am a little unsure of how big a job it's going to turn into and whether or not I should have it professionally done. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Daves1940Buick56S
My '40 56S needs all new seals as well. I am going to attempt the side and vent windows myself. The windshield and back window have reveal molding that is fragile and difficult to replace so I have been told, so I think I will farm them out. Cheers, Dave
jpage
Define "seals". Are you speaking of rubber channel or are you speaking of the beltstrips (fuzzy) strips on the doors and qtr. windows. Rebuilding the division bars, which have 2 different pieces in them, is not dificult. you will need to get the correct tubular rivets to do it correctly. Restoration Specialties in PA (814-467-9842) can furnish you with the rivets or rebuild them for you.The fuzzy strips are stapled in place and can be restapled with care. RS also carries the staples. They can also bend and install the beltstrips for you.The beltstrips around the qtr. windows can be a bear to bend and you must reuse the original connector strip. RS can also furnish you with more info on how to install the parts. If you call, ask for Jeff or Dave JR.
Daves1940Buick56S
In my case, seals on the windshield and rear window and vents, and channel/sweeper on the side windows. I am going to leave the quarter windows alone for now. The division bars, are you talking between the vent and side windows? I was just going to order the parts from Bobs but maybe I will give Restoration Specialties a ring. Cheers, Dave
Rod Frazier
Thanks for the responses. What I bought (from Steele Rubber Products) was a door window run channel kit, a rigid run with division bar channel, a rigid run side window channel, 3' of door window weatherstrip, and 5' of window run channel strip. It's been so long since I bought the stuff, I've forgotten what is what;, but I guess it's time to roll up the sleeves and start taking things apart. Daves1940Buick56S
Rod, are you replacing your glass? Cheers, Dave
Rod Frazier
No, Dave. Glass is all good. I'm just trying to get rid of the wind noise at the tops of the front windows. It wouldn't bother me in most old cars I've had, but the Century is so quiet otherwise that it's annoying.
Daves1940Buick56S
OK. My side glass and vents are all delaminated. I was seeing if anyone had any experience getting the glass out of the clamps. As far as noise, my car sounds like a tin can full of stones. I have quite a ways to go before it's as quiet as yours. Cheers, Dave
Rod Frazier
jpage, are you saying the belt strips (fuzzies) are stapled in? If so, how do you get to the staples?
