dmgoulet
I know in California that the DMV would stamp the engine number near there since the engine number was used for registration Edited May 16, 2015 by dmgoulet (see edit history)
Guest DodgeKCL
I have heard this before but it's kind of useless, not very practical. You would have to lift the body to find it. They must of just put it there because of some line documentation reason. 99% of them have never been seen again. I also have heard the upper frame surface has the sequential line serial number stamped on it near the rear kickup. Again you would have to lift the body to see it. Putting both numbers on the top of the frame was for some factory reason. I don't think they ever thought we would see them. I don't think Walter ever thought in a million years that his cars and trucks would last a hundred years and be dissected and bisected and restored (You're going to what????) and we would find these numbers and wonder why. countrytravler
One of our customers that works on these trucks was telling me about the numbers being stamped. That is a factory stamp and not DMV. Those numbers are just in front of the firewall. Not under the body. Lift the hood and you will see it.
