Glove box Question

Recommended Posts

The glove box and ashtray handles on the 1938 Zephyr were plastic, dark cream in color. In 1939 they switched to chrome plated metal. Same style, just made stronger. Attached is a photo of the '38 with mounting screws. The ashtray and glove box take the same hanble just the mounting is different. The '38's will work for you, technically they'll be wrong, but...

BTW, for a small fee I could cast them in the '39 color; medium amber.

Keith

Oh No! Not another issue with my 1938! My handles are the chrome type and I thought they were correct. They PO really did a lot of changing things around. Just look at the color of the dash. After two and one half years of work I'm beginning to believe I'll never get this car back to it's beginning glory.

As they say, "The plot thickens". Anyone interested, please take a look at a 1938 coupe for sale on eBay. The seller states the interior is bone stock orginial. Notice the glove box handles, they are the chrome type. I am wondering which one is right for the '38 & '39?

With your dash, steering column and wheel being all the wrong color and the window mouldigs should be wood grain ,I wouldn't fret too much over glove box knobs but I thought all 38 & 39s were chrome plated

Attached are two photos of restored Zephyrs. One is a '38 with cream plastic glove box handels and the other is a '39 with chrome. I always thought Lincoln switched to chrome in '39 because they were stronger and didn't break as easlaly. Maybe a few late '38's sported chrome. Who knows?

My gosh Keith, if my car looked that good I'd sleep in it. I did some checking and believe my car is a later production '38. I know the car is no where near a judging level, but what would the judges say about the handles if everything else was 'up to snuff'? Anyone?

And sorry for the pic upside down. I take pictures with an iPad and am left handed. Didn't know that if you take a picture left handed, when viewed on the iPad it looks correct. When posted it is inverted. Technology...it's going to get all of us old folks. Just imagine...turn signals instead of sticking your arm out the window!

Beltfed, I think your white dash etc. with chrome handles looks quite smart and refreshing, even upside down. Its your car, drive and enjoy, maybe change after a few thousand miles, you may find it grows on you.
