This lovely 1968 Buick Skylark convertible came to me from a wonderful guy who has spent the last five years tweaking it to make it one of the nicest I've ever seen. It's a lifelong Florida car with just over 48,000 original miles, and he's worked overtime to get it into top condition. It's got an unusual combination of options, including factory A/C and bucket seats, and the list of newly restored or replaced parts is as long as my arm. The paint was done about six years ago, just before he bought it, but he had it professionally buffed so it looks even better in person than it does in photos. The creamy light yellow paint is correct for 1968 and is this car's original color. All the sheetmetal is, of course, original to the car and in excellent condition. The doors open and close easily, the quarters are ripple-free, and the whole thing fits together rather well. Of note, he had the fender skirts installed because he likes the way the trim sweeps from nose to tail, but the original wheel opening trim is included with the car. The only possible demerits on the exterior are scuffs on the outer corners of the driver's side of the bumpers, scuffs that were there when he bought the car and he just didn't get around to having the bumpers re-chromed.

The black bucket seat interior is almost completely original save for the carpets, which he replaced two years ago. The seats are in excellent condition with only a few scuff marks on the piping of the passenger's bucket. The gauges are original and the dashboard appliques are a little yellowed by age, but he was unable to find replacements, so he left them alone. Everything works, including the factory A/C, and there's an AM/FM/CD stereo cleverly hidden in the glove box and powering speakers in the kick panels. There is a new black power convertible top that was installed last October and I'm the first person to ever put it down and it fits extremely well. He also bought a new boot which he never used (obviously). The trunk is outfitted with a new mat and a matching full-sized spare tire that's never been down.

The engine is the original 350 cubic inch V8 with a 2-barrel carburetor. It's never been opened or replaced and runs beautifully. He spent a lot of time detailing the engine bay and it looks amazing--even the exhaust manifolds are in great shape with very little scale. He replaced decals as needed, touched up paint, and did all of those finicky little things that we all mean to do on our own cars but never quite get around to doing. He's a fastidious guy and loves that kind of stuff! It starts easily and idles smoothly, even when cold, and he had a custom dual exhaust system made that has just enough V8 burble to it but doesn't ever get too loud. The transmission shifts crisply and it's got new shocks and fully rebuilt brakes all around. The Buick road wheels were also re-chromed and repainted, then fitted with a brand new set of Uniroyal whitewall radials with less than 400 miles on them.

It includes a huge file of receipts and other paperwork, plus the original owner's manual, top manual, and a 1968 Buick brochure. There's also a fairly substantial cache of spare parts, including brand new door panels and interior side panels for the back seat. It's not a perfect car, but it's very pretty and very nicely finished. I'd wager that it's a 340-350 point car in BCA judging and could easily be taken up a few notches without a big investment. In the mean time, you get a very attractive V8-powered convertible with great performance, all for only $29,900, and I'm always happy to entertain offers. Thanks for looking!
