Steve_Mack_CT
One of the cool things about these cars is that a lot of them see use in friendly competition as well as the show field. The purpose of this thread is to share upcoming events that are Speedster themed, or your stories of events you participated in.Could be a hill climb, tour or some other organized event. The Race of Gentleman comes to mind on the East Coast, but that seems a little more hot rod than Speedster oriented (still a very cool event that's on my do list one of these days) or some of the Speedster gatherings that occur on the West Coast.Let's see what you all have and hopefully this turns out to be an interesting thread.
Steve_Mack_CT
OK, let's start out with these:http://www.tillamookfair.com/fairevents.htm#pnf Yep, the Pig & Ford races are back again in Oregon come August 6 - 9! (wonder if they are connected to the NW Speedster club, or if the cars are fair property?) Most of you have seen the videos on this, if not, google Pig & Ford races for prior years looks like a lot of fun albeit with more or less bare chassis cars rather than speedsters. Here is one for folks in my neck of the woods that is really an early Ford (1931 and earlier) swap, but since so many T Speedster out there I added to the list: http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=161649 If it is Speedster friendly or Speedster oriented, let's list it! Guest RagsNB
I did the Race of Gentlemen this year and had a blast. I entered the Bike race on my 1942 WLC Harley. The cars contrary to above note on into to thread the race is Speedster oriented. There were very few Hot rods and none in the race. Guess that depends on what you think a hot rod is? Cars have to be older then 1934 and drive line can be as new as 53. Most I saw were original teens and 20s speedsters. The next heavy associated bunch was a good group of early 30s with old flat heads. Non looked like a 50s 60s typical hot rodded up car with big gasser engine pumping out the HP. All had thin tires low HP original pre 34 engines, bodies were rusty dented and no one had flashy paint. A few shots I took and others took of me at the race. Some idea of the type of cars, visit Race of Gentlemen on face book or .com great photos. Guest RagsNB
Im currently building a 1919 Gray Dort speedster to enter next year. There are 2 car categories 4 cylinder which they call "Bangers" and V8s all as I said above in thread, pre 1934 and as original a possible but no newer drive components newer then 53. I found my Gray Dort in a barn while getting parts for my bike. I researched it and found that a Gray Dort won the dirt track oval race at the Toronto Exhibition 1920,21 and raced in 22 and 23. I plan to boat tail rear end and run the exhaust back to rear. What I would call hot rods showed up to watch the race and participated in a custom car show before the event and had displays at the street but not on the beach. Same went for newer bikes that had been customized chopped and racked out the typical 60s look. lost on display but non racing on the beach. The team at the Oilers MC/CC really tried hard to ensure a vintage 1920/30s look to the event. Guest RagsNB
This a few shots of a classic speedster at the race of gentlemen. I added them to reflect on the boat tail design....look close it actually is a boat! Looks like a large canoe cut and attached to give that old school approach to areo dynamics. Wood wheels original paint it does not et much better then this. My plan is to restore/build a similar speedster for next years race. Rags

Steve_Mack_CT
Definitely a unique and cool event, hope to check in out one day. Clearly the event is sanctioned by local authorities which is interesting. No one crying about vehicles on the beach or safety concerns. I think it's great but very likely not easily duplicated elsewhere, hopefully the organizers keep it going for years to come.
