I have been looking for a rotary engine car in the last month or so and was told that a rotary engine on a RX7 last generation and the RX8 engines are done at 100,000 miles. I was told that a high , milage roatry cannot be rebuilt like a piston engine due to its shape and the only recourse is to buy a junk yard engine. Can this be true? I was looking at a very nice RX8 with 94 thousand miles, 2007 and due to oil consumption will meed a new engine soon. This engine cannot be rebuilt like a piston engine? New rings hone the cylinders and new bearings and a piston engine is ready to go.

CAN SOMEONE HELP ME?

Thanks for all your time,

Richard

Ps, the last Rx 7, 1988 with the turbo is stupid fast, I would give up on the turbo for

For longer engine life.

Thanks all.

The apex seals can be replaced, although my guess is that it is not cost effective compared to just swapping in a lower mileage unit.

I rebuilt a 13B for a 74 RX4 I had back in '82. At the time the only the dealer had any of the seals. You pretty much have to replace all the seals on the rotors, not just the apex seals. The biggest problem was getting the side housings refinished. I ran into a guy by chance who was able to do it for me for just trading some parts I had. I was lucky nothing else needed machining. It wasn't expensive to rebuild then, less than a Mazda 4 cylinder.

And it was a fairly easy job otherwise.

Ditto, built a '73 RX3.
