About 140 miles on the '56 Roadmaster, another 100 or so on the Reatta, and only about 25 on the '41 Roadmaster. It was about a 30 mile trip on a quiet secondary road to my friends place for a meeting with a group to move our RR collection in preparation for them to take it back to their place in a few weeks. One thing about living in the country is people think you have extra room for things and one of Rick's buddies brought this Packard out to "temporarily" store it. When it came out it was a nice shinny running car but... Not only has sitting out in the weather taken it's toll but the mice have made themselves quite at home... The day otherwise was productive and the next meeting will likely be the final move for the RR. Fired up the Special to head home in the now 96 degree heat and she performed better than I expected. The falls spills off the canal so you drive down into the glen to get to it. "And in JulyA lemonadeTo cool you in some leafy glades" Almost forgot, turned 88,000 miles while we were out. This was always one of my favorite shows when I was a kid. Riley and I rolled down in the Limited and Melanie and Cody drove her '56 Chrysler wagon. Decent turn out for a first time show, although a lot more late-model cars and modified stuff than I like. Maybe 70 cars. Ours was one of two Full Classics (the other being the 1931 Nash sedan I sold a few months ago). Buick pretty popular, pink station wagon VERY popular. No classes, no awards, which was nice. Only one kid in a late-model Mustang did anything stupid. Not bad at all, and we all had a good time despite the heat. Hopefully they can keep it going, I have only good memories of this show from the '70s and '80s. I had never been able to get my car to the show for one reason or another over the last 5 years. Today she was first on the field at 7:30 am. My job was to make sure the show cars were parked in their correct classes. This is the only two pictures I was able to shoot today, being so busy helping out. The first at 730 this morning. But this evening it was perfect for a ride in the Super While backing it out of the driveway I caught this shot And I wanted to catch the sunset where I was with the GS the other day, but that didn't really work. But it is a picturesque spot So moving on down the road I drove over numerous creeks passing under bridges And it turned out that one of these bridges was closed for repairs, forcing me onto a road I never would have drove before. And what a great road This landed me in the next town from which I headed back home from a great ride! I filled the tank and took it to a car wash (I’d rather do it at home, but was lazy) to get it ready for Teresa to take to the movie shoot Wednesday. Among the 65 pre '16 cars are a 1915 C37, a 1915 C55, '12 model 25 and another model 31 owner with a different car. More tomorrow. Take the time to dial it in and you'll have much more fun. I enjoy the sorting process quite a bit because every little thing you do makes the car tangibly better and many of the jobs are easy weekend projects. Buicknutty Posted July 24, 2019 Share Posted July 24, 2019 Drove the '41 Roadmaster to a cruise in at a town 15 miles away. A beautiful evening and night here, so a great turn out. Lots of neat cars, and also few not so old, including a yellow 2007 Aston Martin that was parked near me. The '41 ran and drove great. I had a leaky exhaust gasket, and changed them out yesterday, and it's now nice and quiet. Smoother too, it must of been drawing in some air into the intake as well. The main reason for this is that I don't torque the bolts as tight as spec, to try to avoid the stress that can cause the exhaust manifolds to crack and hadn't checked them for a long while, and they were all a bit loose, and therefore the leaks! I'm always curious as to why it's not a good idea to text while you drive but it's perfectly okay to out that phone in front of your face to take picture? Or perhaps she was trained to be a rural letter carrier and can drive from the passenger's seat. Sitting in your lap might create other problems though, could be even more distracting. As mentioned, there is my '41, and the '07 Astin Martin, a beautiful restored '27 Studebaker, a '53 Sunbean Alpine, the '60s ones are better known, as they became the basis for the "Tiger", a stunning gold '64(?) GTO with the tri power engine, a '66 Ford pick up truck with the 240 6 cyl and stand trans. This was mechanically identical to another '66 I drove in the early 70's, only that one was black and was a Mercury truck, another "only in Canada" model. My friend had his '32 McLaughlin Buick there as well, a stunning looking restored car. The same gent also has a great looking '58 Limited I posted a few weeks ago. JohnD1956 Posted July 26, 2019 Author Share Posted July 26, 2019 Took the GS to the last night's Hemmings Cruise in. Had planned to meet up with Ed @ 4 pm but had massive issues enroute. No, not problems with the Happy Car! If that car is unhappy it is because I haven't used it enough. Due to the 2019 Challenge most of the time I am driving the '56. This was external factors. To start with the weather forecast was for 20% chance of rain. I was just a mile away from home on a bright sunny 83* day when I saw the massive storm type clouds right in the direction I was planning to travel. With no other clouds around I decided not to return home to close the windows which I had left open slightly on the Regal and Wagon. A few miles later I pulled over and tried to get a weather radar on my cell phone, but that didn't work. And just then there was a HUGE thunder clap overhead. So I put the top up, but decided to leave the windows down. a few miles after that In Mechanicville, I had to put the windows up. Sheesh! Then I turned onto Rt 67 for the eastward drive and the train tracks I have never seen a train on were blocked by a stopped train! I did think I was getting a message to go back home, but I turned around and drove 6 miles north to Stillwater where I could catch the next bridge over the Hudson River. This brings me to essentially the same place. Just a short extra trip through Saggicoke and I'd be back on track. However, on Rt 40, the main passage through this town, there was roadwork with the highway reduced to one alternating lane of traffic. It was here that I was wishing I had fixed the AC in that car! But eventually I got through and drove in soft rain to the meeting spot, arriving a half hour late. But no problem, we finished the drive to Hemmings and parked the cars, then walked the three blocks downtown to get some dinner. 3 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

In the "Not your father's Buick" class, but still pretty damn nice! A '34 Packard Sorry for the bad pictures but this car was just too nice to not post it. I am always amazed at the size of cars in this era. I know that would not fit into many of the small garages that were built after WWII.
