Well discovered today when taking off the door skin. That the passenger side window track on my 64 Rivi is partly broken, A piece for the rear part of the passenger door window track is broken off, completely cracked off. Was just kind of a bummer to discover because I wasn't expecting to discover that. The window goes up and down fine. That's why I wasn't expecting to discover part of the track to be broken. But heck the Rivi is old so kinda goes with the territory.

Doesn't anybody have suggestions or know where I might be able to locate and find one ? I think it's called window track, tho I'm not totally sure. Here are some pics so you can see.

I found the same thing on my '64 and a friend's '63. If we hadn't taken the door skins off for other reasons, we would have never known they were broken. We're playing like they're not needed and will continue to use them "as is" for as long as ..........

If I were you, I'd button yours up and not think about it any longer. I had two parts '63's last summer, both windows in both doors were like that as well. I'm telling myself that Buick over engineered it and there's no problem with them as is.

Alrighty I'm not going to worry about it then. Since you all have the same thing going on and your windows still go up and down too.

Thank you all for your feedback.

I have been thinking about making a new one out of aluminum I just haven't had time to try it yet. I was going to sandwich some thick aluminum together with rivets and then shape it as needed. Maybe one of these days? I know the windows work without it but was going to give it a try anyway.

Mine was broken in 1978 and rattled when you closed the door. I had it heliarched and it has been fine. Back then it wasn't as easy to find welders like that. The same guy repaired my hood ornament after the ring got knocked off by a snowbrush. I haven;t replaced it because he was a friend and I remember him when I polish it.

So I just took off the driver side's outer door skin. Sure enough the window track guide at the rear of the door is broken off too. Tho the arm(broken piece) is missing. So clearly tells me this isn't the first time the driver's side skin has been off. But I wasn't shocked this time to find that the part was broken off. Per all the feed back you guys gave me.

I just took apart a couple of doors for the power vent windows and on these doors, the parts weren't broken. BUT, when I disassembled them the were very stiff at the pivot and the guides would not roll on their pivots. I sprayed the arms with some WD-40 and loosened them up some, but they still drag a little. The guides are soaking. What I think that I did discover is that the arm that breaks moves in the curved track. The curved track has an adjustment on it that, I think, allows you to adjust the window against the roof seal. There are two nuts on a stud that is welded to the door. If you loosen the outer nut, you can run the inner nut, in or out. The position of the inner nut determines the pressure that the top of the window exerts on the seal.

Therefore, the broken arm has nothing to do with the raising and lowering of the window but it does have a bearing on the fit of the upper window against the roof seal.
