[h=5]I have to share this with you. I think you might appreciate the coincidence. I went to a car show/swap-meet last Sunday. There was a guy selling old license plates, and I thought I should look to find a couple sets from 1956, as I have a 56 VW, and a 56 Tbird. I came to find two sets that were one number off each other. License plate 8297 and 8298. He was selling them as a two set item. So, you know I had to buy them. I don't think I would ever run into this chance ever again. The guy claims they were from the Walgreen family at one time. I don't know if he was BSing, or not, and I really don't care who they belong to at one time, but thought that having these plates one number apart for my two 56's is kinda cool.[/h]

Yes it's cool you find these plates for your two 56's! But I wonder why only 4 number digits. The state of Illinois had less than 9999 vehicles in 56? I don't get it.

They issued 7 digit number plates in 56 as they do today. That said, not all plates have 7 digits today, right? I have another 56 plate with 7 digits.

Ah yes, you're right, seen those 56' plates on google images... Here in Quebec, since 1979 there is only a single plate located at the rear of the vehicle. Before, there were two, one in front and one behind. Because of the significant costs associated with the manufacturing of these plates, it was decided that only one suffice.
