jscheib
Steve and the host region,This still does not mention the cars. As it stands now, it seems all vehicles, other then motorcycles, will need to be driven from the VF lots. It seemed at one point pre-1928 cars would be able to unload at the show site. Is there some special about the pre- 1928 cars to warrant their inclusion for "site" unloading? Seems to me a 1927 can drive just as easily as a 1930??? I googled the site, and it would seems if the show is on the north side, and no other event is happening, their should be general parking on the south side, and some industrial sites nearby for unloading trailers but petrhaps not parking. Just my 2 cents.JohnJohn
Steve Moskowitz
I am still trying to get the complete information but want it to be factual. I believe they are still working on this issue. I will post more later as received.
cutlasguy
When is the link to the Spring Meet in Reading going to be put up on the Website and when is the deadline? I usually register online because all of my info is already on the form. Please post as soon as possible. Also, is the showfield (parking lot) going to be patrolled so that I can leave my vehicle there Friday Night and not have it stolen? Thanks
Dick380185
I used Google Earth to scope out the Reading Show field area and the Vanity Fair trailer parking area. Truthfully, the entire place looks very urban and quite unfriendly for driving old cars and certainly not a place I would consider riding a vintage motorbike.Having to do this dropping off of motorcycles, returning to the Vanity Fair parking area via 3 miles of city driving, waiting for the shuttle bus, then wait for it to make it's way back through traffic, and to then do it all over again after the show sounds like a great deal of fuss and may not be worth the effort. With all the parking areas in and around the Expo Center, it's hard to believe an area can't be procured to accommodate small cycle haulers. I'm about at my end worrying about this ongoing problem. It's apparent which vehicles are given the cold shoulder in this club.
ChryslerMike25
Yes, plans are being made to have the lot patrolled Friday night. The area is well gated and locked also during the night hours.ChryslerMike25
ChryslerMike25
I stand corrected. The show will be on the South end black top lots. I got north and south mixed up. The lots to the North are actaully not part of the Expo. The VF Parking are the large lots at 405 North Park Road, Wyomissing, PA 19610. Parking is not at the main VF lots. Thes lots for parking are the VF trailer and RV lots and these are secured and patrolled by VF Security. These lots are, by Map Quest 4.8 miles from the show field. This is the trailer parking area and this area will be part of the shuttle.ChryslerMike25
ChryslerMike25
Hello FranklinmanCars older than 1928 can unload and park their trailers at the show. Other cars can unload at the show, but will have to park atthe VF lots which by Mapquest are 4.81 miles away. The shutlle will be running both Friday and Saturday and until several hours after the show. Motorcycle and race cars are being addressed and will be shared upon a final verdict. The Region folks are great people and they are doing and will do the right thing for all involved. I am sure we can all work together and have a great show.Space is always limited and many of the lots around the show private. The Region is doing it's best and I am sure they will adress many of these issues in detail at the next meeting. Plus if I remember, this fall at Hershey trailer parking was not real close, but then again the rains caused that change. Let's work together, remain positive and have a great show and enjoy showing our pride and joy vehicles.ChryslerMike
cutlasguy
Talk about a nightmare! I tried the number of the Host Hotel provided by ChryslerMike and after several rings, was greeted by a high pitched screeching noise! I then searched the WEB for The Crown Plaza, Reading, Pa and got a number to dial for reservations! This connected me with a nationwide reservation specialist who never heard of the AACA and asked me if I could provide an event number!(I guess they don't host automobile events in India) Finally, after asking for the front desk number of the Crown Plaza, I got someone who, although not familiar with the AACA, offered to look it up on their schedule of event hostings and "Viola", she discovered it! Number to call is 619-376-3811. Room rate is $89.00/ per night.

ChryslerMike25
If you walk out the backdoor of the Host Hotel you are in the Hooter's parking lot. Plus, I am sure if you tip well these girls might even help with your car on Saturday. If nothing else, I am sure the pictures with them, you and your car will be priceless!ChryslerMike25
yodersclassic
I can't believe the hosting club thought this was going to be ok. In all of my years going to AACA shows I have not had to do this. I don't mind driving closed down street like we did in New Bern. My cars are for show only and are not tagged, as for unloading at the show who is going to watch my car while I drive back to the VF lot?? Just unload and let it sit in the middle of the lot?? They have plenty of time to get this straightened out before time to register. I for one am not going to register until they come up with a plan.

Steve Moskowitz
latest:Steve,The race cars and motorcycles will be treated the same regarding their loading and unloading of their vehicles. There will parking available for trailers hauling '27 & older on the opposite side of the expo center. Hence, they will be traveling a few hundred yards
Guest B Rose
I guess my main concern at this point, assuming the trailer parking doesn't change, is how long will we have to unload the car, and get it over to our spot on the show field, before the truck/trailer has to be moved to the VF Mall. I'm going to be alone, so I will have to unload the car, drive it on to the show field, get it parked in my spot, then walk back to the truck/trailer, and drive it to the mall. Also one other question? Where and when will the awards ceremony be? Will it be at the host hotel? That will be another issue. How far is the mall from the hotel. After the show, we will need a shuttle to the mall to get the truck/trailer, then drive back to the show field to load the car, then back to the mall? Then will the shuttle be running back to the hotel for the awards? I can't see all those trailers going back to the hotel, unless there's a huge hotel parking lot? I'm just putting these concerns out there, for all the folks attending the show, not to sound like a complainer.
john2dameron
I'm in the minority of AACA members that do not own or show a car/s. If the people showing their cars are up against all this, I assume there is no provision at all for a elderly guy with two well-worn aching legs to even think about finding a place to park. I would hate to travel maybe 400 miles and the trip turn out to be a complete bummer.
jscheib
John,I would think that general public parking would not be a problem, as most all venues have had space avaiable in reasonable proximity. Ose a handicap scooter may even be used at most events, unless on heavy grass. I would check back later to see what develops. But it is just 4 months from now.John
cutlasguy
Just registered online today! Thanks for putting it up! By the way, are they having a band and open bar at the banquet? They must, considering they're charging $49.00 a person! This is Reading, Pa., not New York City! I'll skip it!
ChryslerMike25
KevinI belong to the host Region. The host hotel is the Crowne Plaza, 610-376-3811. Ask for the AACA Car Show rate which I believe to be $89. The hotel is in Wyomissing, PA. If you have other questions, give me a yell.Chrysler Mike

Bhigdog
Does anyone know if the $25 trailer parking fee is also charged for day of show parking. In other words will it cost $25 to park the trailer only from morning to afternoon on the day of the show?..........Bob
jscheib
As I understand the form (complete show), it is for everyone that wants to park, at either or both sites, So if you are coming for one day only, you are probably paying for overnight security. Again, just guessing on my part, as communication is limited. I hope we learn more.John

ChryslerMike25
Hello BMW*39 and other Motorcycle FriendsGood News. Motorcycle parking will be at the show field. The Meet Organizing Team is also working to have transportation from the parking area back to the show field. It is not far, but they understand your special needs with needing both hands to drive. We didn't want anyone having to drive and clutch their registration packets between their teeth. But it would have have made for some interesting pictures. The Meet Organizers are doing their best to keep all members happy and excited to come to Reading. If we can respond to other questions or concerns regarding the meet, please give us a shout.ChryslerMike25

We're assuming the highlighted area above refers to our haulers & cycle trailers. It's nice to know some folks understand the special needs of those showing 2-wheeled vehicles! ~ Now, if we can prevail upon the Hershey Region to make similar arrangements for their fall show...
