1950 Olds Interior Number

Recommended Posts

I have a body parts catalog that goes back to 51, so I'll go out on a limb here and hope 50 and 51 are the same.

3 in 1951 indicates dark gray striped Nylon pile-cord with light gray Nylon cloth, for Super 88 and 98 closed cars.

3A indicates light gray Surrey & dark gray Nylon cord fabric for Super 88 closed cars.

You had to get into Holidays and convertibles to get any colored interiors. Also find it unusual that trim code 1, light and dark gray chevron patterned cloth, applies to the 88A (the carryover 1950 and price leader) and the 98 Holiday Coupe.

I have a 1950 88 sedan Deluxe and will start the interior restoration over the winter. Although everything is faded it looks to me like the dash was more of a gold color and metallic black. All of the window trim is the same color as the dash. The seats are fancier as well. so far I have not found any reference to what the actual color of the dash was.

Does anyone know the difference between the standard sedan and the Deluxe? I would like to get as close to the original color as possible.

A '50 with a "standard" trim level has seats with only 1 fabric, and black rubber gravel shields. A "Deluxe" has seats with two different materials, 1 a cloth, and 1 a dark gray nylon type material on the top 1/3 of the seats. The exterior gravel shields are also stainless steel.

On the trim tag a deluxe model will have a "D" on the end of the model designation number.

The deluxe '50 88 interior had what I call an Oatmeal type upper pleated area with a stripped lower section. All factory '50 88 dashboards have a light gray upper area with a dark blueish gray lower section. My stock 88A has the identical dash colors as the 50 88 but a very plain stripped upholstery.

I was away for the long weekend...

Style # 50-3769D

Body No 8W 991

Trim No 3

Paint No 18 ( I have painted it something close to Crest blue though).

I'm trying to get a match for original interior paint

I have tried multiple paint shops but told that the codes have no cross reference for modern paint. Has anyone found a suitable modern equivalent? I dread spending hours looking at paint chips.

My body shop has about 200 "silver/gray" paint cards on a long chain. When repainting the upper dash and garnish mldgs I choose a SLIGHTLY brighter silver color with just a SLIGHT hint of metallic. My stock upper dash and mldgs were perfect but were flat & washed out from age and the sun.

At 3 national Olds meets I received no deductions for my dash.

Sorry- I didnt keep the paint chip code.

Sorry: Photo will not upload for some reason.

The number 1 '50 Olds guy that I know of that is still alive is Bill Ehrsam in Sylvania, OH. That is near Toledo. If you can't find him in the phone book, he is very active in the National Antique Oldsmobile Club. I am sure he will have the modern equivalent colors since he does award winning '50 Olds 88 restorations.

Oldsmobile Club of America guys speak highly of Bill as the "go to" person.

I would be interested to know where you find interior components for sale. I have a

poverty trim '50 Olds club coupe that needs a complete interior.

Thanks.

Dick.
