We had such a great time attending the 2019 ROA Meet.

Im getting the front disc brakes on the triple black 68 GS rebuilt. Less than 6% had the option from factory! When I purchased the vehicle I didn't even notice it had them, even though it is listed on the dealer option list that came with the cars paperwork.

Finally got my 65GS done !  4 years , two crooks  later  and my grandchildren’s college savings ! 😀JK . Being shipped back to Des Moines tomorrow along with lots extra parts so let me know if you need anything ! This car started as barn find from Duluth, MN and is numbers matching. I modified the paint color from Verde Green, upgraded the interior from standard to deluxe with power windows and vents and put stainless 2 1/2 “ exhaust system with two mufflers rather than central one . Also put my tach in where the clock was using the same bezel. Painted under the hood body color rather than black and powder coated the wheel wells . Other than that pretty much  all stock. Know some purists will disagree but it’s what I wanted . If anyone needs a great restoration guy who is very reasonable and in the Houston area , let me know and I will  hook you up

Hi Ken,

You're GS looks great!  Excellent bodywork and paint.  What color did you paint it?

You said "4 years, two crooks later..."  I'm sure there's a story there!  Mind relating it for us to learn from?

Congratulations on seeing the project throught - the results are outstanding!

Got her back at home safely finally ( and off the payroll- feels like I just got a raise! ) . Re: the two crooks -one said he would do it , took a bunch of my cash to start and then tore the car apart and then nothing for 8 months , second crook states he was working 8 hours/day at $40/hr but in reality was probably working 2 hrs/day . When I questioned him why it took three gallons paint at $125/gallon to paint a chassis , he went nuts on me and told me to get my f...ing car out of his garage today or it would cost me $200/day . I had it out in 4 hours with the help of 5 friends and a Penske  truck . That's when the late Hardy Rawls came to my rescue . When he heard the story he said " bring that car down her to me and we will get it done ! " so sad he didn't get to see the final product . His shop did a wonderful job and  I will always be grateful to him and Garon Bracewell who did all the work . These pictures are us loading onto the truck to take to Hardy's shop in Montgomery ,TX .

Great result, despite the tribulations.  I hope you'll enjoy your newly minted Gran Sport for many years and miles to come!

That came out perfect. Is that Claret Mist Metallic?

I used that color in DuPont lacquer in 1980 when I painted my '64. Then in 1990 I repainted the hood with DuPont Centari Madera Maroon single stage and got a nice match. My car never had the ruby luster yours has. I used a red oxide primer and always attributed that to the, sort of, brown cast to the car. I see you painted over a gray primer. I figured that made the difference, slight but the painter sees it every time.

Right now I have House of Color Black Cherry Pearl base coat picked out. I'd switch to whatever you used in a minute. That would be sincere flattery.

Bernie - the color is a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee color -Velvet Red - which I really liked when I first saw it a couple of years ago . The original Burgundy for 1965 just didn't have the "pop" I wanted . The primer was actually changed to red when I got it to Hardy's shop in Texas and I believe it was the right choice .

I think you are right. I had previously had a brown '68 Riviera changed to a '64 Mercury Heritage Burgundy and remember being much more happy with the color. My '64 8 coats of lacquer over the red oxide primer

Thank you for the color. I got the PPG code and it is at the top of my list.

Carl Blackard, ROA tech advisor, won Best of Show with his Claret Mist '64 a few years back.  When I asked him about it, he told me what 'effects' he added to the original color to give some "pop" the the original Claret.  If you're interested, his contact information is in the Riview along with the other Tech Advisors.

My 64 is about ready for ready for paint and I've grown really fond of the Lexus Claret Mica. Its closer to the original 64 Claret but much more brilliant.  Then I'll have to see if Calvin Clark can make some upholstery for me in the Lexus Casmere Beige color.

I thought I would post this here instead of starting a new thread ...

We held our 14th Rivieras at the Park in Archdale, NC today and had a pretty good turn-out.

I thought I would post pics of a few of mine, one of the Aqua Zephyr, thanks for coming Mike, and a group shot of the nine Rivs in attendance.

I have no reason to believe it’s not original... does the Vin tell you?

Congrats

Your car appears to be in outstanding condition. Would like to know its history.

Gorgeous wheel covers. They are getting extremely rare in top condition. Don't let them go.

Thanks! I looked up the plate and it is original scarlet red colour. Here’s the engine bay I was talking about being a little rough. My 11 year old said his fave parts about the car were the wheels trim and the no air bags in front so he can ride up there!
