Guest Gee_Rydes
Randy, Thanks for the link. I didn;t know if that was okay to do on this forum.Ed...good eyeObviously not a real Riv guy. Couldn't somebody with a trashed GS have pulled the VIN plate and the engine and transplanted them onto any other Riv create such a "rare" model? RivNut
Since Buick didn't keep track of VIN numbers for the GS option, anything is possible. However, there is one other item to consider - two four barrel setups were an "over the counter option" that could be dealer installed. You could have bought any Riv as a used car, and order the 2X4 set up through the dealer's parts department and have it installed. Ed
Guest Gee_Rydes
Good point Ed,I am trying to see if the engine actually has an LX stamp. No picture of it yet
RivNut
You might also want to look for the vehicle VIN on the block. It's located on the same surface as the engine code but on the driver's side whereas the engine code is on the passenger's side.
Guest Gee_Rydes
Ed,Engine stamp matches VIN and is an LX. But if you had a rusted out GS and mistakenly thought that a 1 out of 454 car would be worth more than a 1 out of 3354 (GS) car, a person could take the drivetrain and VIN tag and swap those to a baser model car and create a 1 in 454 car.All data on this cars points to it being legitimate, but the fact is it can still be done fairly easily.40 years of time for some owner to have thought of that.
