Guest lvrpool32
I am doing a mild custom 64, car had some previuolsy repaired damage on the front and one fo the things I am thinking about is converting to a 65 style headlight set up.Have 2 questions...is this a simple unbolt, bolt in set up of stock factory parts or do I need to start fabbing stuff. I know I need the grill, the clam shell's for the fenders, the trim pieces that go around them and then I guess the actual headlight mounts (are they the same???) Anyone have anymore tips I should know? Also, anyone know of someone parting out a 65 that I can get the parts?? I dont need nice chrome..I am color coding or removing most of the chrome anyway.Cheers,Nick
Mr Riviera
I have seen this done a number of times and for the most part its bolt on . You will however need to replace the whole front clip inc. the fenders and innerfenders . Most think the fenders are the same - they are not. Guest Mike Hogan
Dick is correct, the front bumper is slightly different, and the fenders are different to accomodate it.
Guest lvrpool32
Ok thanx. What I might do is do what I saw a custom Rivi do, put headlights behind the stock 64 markers (the fender mounted lights)and just use a stock 65 grill. Will the full length grill fit from a 65 into a 64 withotu issues??Nick
Guest rlowrod
i tried it and the 65 grill didn't fit, had to cut about 1/8 of an inch off both sides, did that and then it fit into the opening on my 64. The 64 grill has a little tab on each top corner that fills in and converts the sharp 64 fender corner to a rounded edged grill. the 65 had a rounded edge but no tab to fill in the gap. After I got the 65 grill cut down and installed, I didn't want to modify the fenders by filling in the corners so I decided to stick with the 64 grill.I have a grill thats cut down to fit a 64, if you want to modify the fenders I'll sell it to you pretty cheap.
