JohnBoyle
On 4 Aug, R&M auctioned at Meadow Brook Hall a 1917 Bearcat that has been rebodied in the 12-16 style. Accorting to the R&M site, the car was once a racer and was subject to many modifications including a shortened (to 111 inches down from 120) chassis and the fitting of various (and unspecified) Mercer parts. In the 80s Paul Freehill owned the car and sold it in 1989 to a Mr. Crabbe, who had it rebodied. Over the past could of years, I've seen this car advertised extensively in Europe.Car is blue with black crowned fenders with a painted radiator shell and wire wheels. No trunk on the shortened rear deck.Result Not Sold at $185,000. In my opinion, that seems more than a fair price considering a more authentic looking Paul Freehill built semi-relica (a new chassis with many original parts) was sold for only $99,000 a short while back.See the car at: http://www.rmauctions.com/AuctionResults.cfm?SaleCode=MB07#click on lot #
