Leif Holmberg
I restored my 1956 Roadmaster Conv.15 years ago,and the last year I have had a very small leakage with the pump inlet.Yesterday I removed the water tube from the pump, and this`s what I found.I have a cast aluminum pump and what has happend are that the water tube have a iron spring inside, and that spring has caused the problem when it have had contakt with the aluminum. My advice are if you have an aluminum pump just check if there are a iron spring inside the tube.I ordered a new pump from Kanter but the shipping and handling are very expensive in my opinion $93,the rebuilt pump cost is $129 and that looks to be quite fair price.Leif in Sweden
JohnD1956
Thanks for the timely reminder Leif. I used to have an aluminum pump on my 56 too, but luckily, I found several cast iron pumps at one of the Flint based National Meets. I bought one and put it on my car so long ago I can't remember when I did it.
TexasJohn55
Did the spring come from the lower radiator hose?
