47 Continental locking steering

I have a 1947 Continental Club coupe stuck in my driveway. I can't get the key to turn in the ignition to start it and the steering column is locked so I can't tow it into the garage. Is it possible to disconnect the cable that goes into the steering column so I can at least steer it? The ignition suddenly won't turn clockwise like it is binding on something, it will go counter clockwise a little.

Any help is appreciated.

The steering wheel has a little play (less than 1/8 inch). while moving the wheel up and down, turn the key counter clock wise to unlock the wheel. Pretty much what 19tom40 said. Good Luck
