rivgs
I have a 1947 Continental Club coupe stuck in my driveway. I can't get the key to turn in the ignition to start it and the steering column is locked so I can't tow it into the garage. Is it possible to disconnect the cable that goes into the steering column so I can at least steer it? The ignition suddenly won't turn clockwise like it is binding on something, it will go counter clockwise a little.Any help is appreciated.
19tom40
Try spraying some graphite lock lube into the key slot. Then jack up the front wheels to releive the pressure on the locking pin. Put the key in the lock and work it back and forth while moving the steering wheel.
Guest joe hill
The steering wheel has a little play (less than 1/8 inch). while moving the wheel up and down, turn the key counter clock wise to unlock the wheel. Pretty much what 19tom40 said. Good Luck
rivgs
Thanks guys, we got it unlocked by turning the key and wiggling the switch. Looks like I need to look for a new ignition switch.
19tom40
You may be able to get by with just a new key. Take out the drivers side (probably the least used) door lock and have a locksmith make a new key for it from the numbers.
