countrytravler
JohnI think you posted the wrong picture. Cap is under the grill shell. I would say the emblem in from the 40s-50s?

I would say the emblem in from the 40s-50s?I edited my post to read, "hood ornament" since you are correct about the radiator cap being located under the hood, but the sailboat is the same as 1934. It is similar to the 1935.

keiser31
Gents, I am trying to determine what year the emblem is and also it's placement on where it belongs! Thanks for weighing in.I believe that it is a dealer item and not meant for any production model as a trim part. Maybe added to the rear of a vehicle like a dealer nameplate? 28 Chrysler
The style of the flag was popular from the late 30's throughout the 40's.
countrytravler
Got this answer from another forum.Even though, I've never seen this enamel emblem on an actual car, the flag is a product of the 1939-1949 Plymouth decade. The art deco Plymouth ship emblem below came out in 1934, used as a hood mascot for '34-35. And was seen on the base model steering wheel horn button into 1938 I believe. Depending on size, it may be totally cool to see attached to the grill of a '40-41 model. Here's the flag from the 1946-49 Plymouth ads.http://www.angelfire.com/ca/bojeta/images/Plym_flag.gif

Curti
My dad sold Chryslers and Plymouths during that era. I recall an actual flag with that design hanging on the wall in the dealership.
TG57Roadmaster
I would bet that it's a promotional item from the dealer/sales side, as keiser31 stated above, maybe part of a salesman's award plaque or badge. The ship logo is used on the masthead of this, The Yard Stick -Plymouth Salesmen's League, from June, 1936. The flag banner can be seen in the showroom window, bottom left, from this page of the Plymouth Sales Promoter, December, 1935. It was published semi-monthly in Detroit. The last flag banner that I found in an ad was 1950, didn't look further.A neat story from the same issue of the Promoter...Since they started streamlining the Mayflower hood ornament in '36, and, as noted above with its use through '38 on a horn button, it gives you a window to work with. What are the dimensions of the flag emblem?Again, very cool item!TG Edited April 26, 2015 by TG57Roadmaster (see edit history)
