Guest DiXiEnailhead
I have my '56 322 out on a stand. I've been cleaning all the grime and dirt etc. off with a wire wheel and basically pulled it down to a long block. Yesterday I pulled the freeze plugs out of the block and thoroughly cleaned out the water jackets. I also pulled the pan and scraped about 3/8 of caked up old oil out of the sump of the pan as well as giving the pickup a good cleaning. You would think that the presence of sludge though not all that severe would indicate that there might be significant wear on the cylinders, especially since it doesn't appear to have ever been rebuilt. To my surprise there was still faint crosshatching in the cylinders:cool: Unfortunately I didn't have my camera handy but I will snap a few pictures the next time I'm working on it.
