packard lover
I have been looking for a 1955 Model 98 engine and transmission. I can buy a Model 88 engine and transmission, but do not know if there are any differences. Can I use an 88 engine and transmission in my model 98? What are the differences between the two. Thanks for your assistance. Louis Edited April 1, 2015 by packard lover mispelling (see edit history)
Oldsfan
Just off the top of my head, a Super 88 engine and transmission should be the same as a 98. Both have a 4 barrel carburetor. The 88 engine came with a 2 barrel carburetor. In later years, Olds would have different transmissions coded to mate with various engine and differential combinations. I don't think that was the case in '55. There was a similar question asked on this forum recently.OK, it wasn't that recent. It was almost a year ago. And it looks like you're the one who asked the original question...http://forums.aaca.org/f138/1954-1955-engines-371579.htmlPaul Edited April 1, 2015 by Oldsfan link added (see edit history)
