1955 Model 98

Recommended Posts

I have been looking for a 1955 Model 98 engine and transmission. I can buy a Model 88 engine and transmission, but do not know if there are any differences. Can I use an 88 engine and transmission in my model 98? What are the differences between the two. Thanks for your assistance. Louis

Just off the top of my head, a Super 88 engine and transmission should be the same as a 98. Both have a 4 barrel carburetor. The 88 engine came with a 2 barrel carburetor. In later years, Olds would have different transmissions coded to mate with various engine and differential combinations. I don't think that was the case in '55. There was a similar question asked on this forum recently.

OK, it wasn't that recent. It was almost a year ago. And it looks like you're the one who asked the original question...
