The previous owners ' bless there hearts ' ,.... bought a 1991 for a present, back in the day to each other on / for / their 25th wedding aniversary or at least as I understood, but did't want to pry ( silver aniversary ) .... and .... It just hit me today !!! ........... Mike, the previous owner, when at Banner Bank, ... told me they will invest all of the money from the TC in which I paid them, .......CATCH THIS, ......... into the silver market. EVERYTHING IS SILVER ' I think that is REAL COOL !!! ' Anyway on another silver issue,..... Were the silver stainless steel meets the trim on the rear of my now roadst. top, ... their is a leak on the right hand side. The previous owner confirmed this. ...... I have not yet lifted the hard top to see for myself. ... I can see that the visable brittle welt cord / trim piece. Now, I can buy a 8ft + rubber seal online, but is the trim welt cord going to be a leak issue too or is that only for looks? Should I try to find the welt cord too? or ? ...... OH! ...... I don't think they will mind, ... the previous owner's were the Jones's.

Sorry Hemi, ..... The welt cord is better used in describing sewing upholstery parts, hats etc. It is the cord-like piping that joins two pieces togeither and is a trim-out piece. In this case maybe the seal & trim-cord too (???) It was the best way that I knew of to describe the rounded pipe-like looking trim that is at the base of the rear portion of the removable top. Mine has small breaks towards the fronts on each side. It is probably due to shrinkage. .... Thanks for the top parts break-down Marty14. .......... Am I correct in thinking it is the the Hard top assembly trim 4404 743 since mine is black in colour ?

Marty, maybe you could do a breakdown on the WINDSHIELD HEADER PANEL so those looking to replace the windshield would get an idea of just what components there are and the quantity. That could be very helpful.

I am hoping that a fellow TC member has exp. this ............This is a leak where the hard top meets the stainless steel and also where the trim cord has shrunk, ( like a welt cord & brittle with several breakage issues ) probly to heat / age related I am thinking. This TC has been covered during its life,. so the previous owners have told me, but I should mention too, I have never, yet, had the hard top off the back ... so the previous owners have said / told me,... The major leak is on the right rear portion of the top ( skips and breaks ) and they also had it taped to prevent water from entering an thus down into the floor-pan area when they delivered it to me in a minor/ due to rain-fall this Winter day in Jan. in 2015. Please open up and tell all your exp. with top / water-leaks so in some way I can co-relate. Its been awhile, time-wise and without conclusive answers that could end this problem for me. ,...... I have yet to get this monkey off my back. A big factor here could be that that this new (me) TC owner has never had the top off the TC. You're best advise / advises ( is that a word? ) are appreciated.

The trim on the lower part of the back of the 1991 hardtop is only a plastic, visual trim, color keyed to the paint color of the car, no sealing function. On the 1989 versions I have seen this trim is always black and is part of the lower seal of the hardtop and doesn't come off separately like the 1991. Either the real, inner seal is leaking from damage or the hardtop is not pulling down all the way to smoosh the seal tight. I have seen a lot of 1991 TCs that are missing the trim piece because the adhesive lets loose behind the quarter window and the trim is loosened further and pulled off by wind resistance as the car is driving down the road. I have not mentioned the 1990 model because I don't know if the early build cars are like the 1989 or if all of them are like the 1991. The 1991 hardtops also do not have the paddle style top releases behind the quarter window like the 1989.

Thank you ghostymosty and marty 14 and others, for helping with this trim related item. During this blog / thread that I sarted, I found a rubber seal on-line that is about 8 ft long and seems to be in very good condition and after mulling it over, it fiquared to me it that it had to that flat rubber seal causing the problem. I bought it for $19.00 + ship., it should be at my home soon, .... and you ... Ghost,... with you're in-put, made me feel better about that purchase. I think It could work in the future for me, even if it does not work for now

Thanks for your concern and input Bill. The one rear leak that I have that is an issue is the one at the right rear of the roadster top. The only thing that I know about this or other TC leaks that are typical, is that the two FRONT corners of the left & right were leakers right from the begining and i'm not yet sure about that yet, ... but this is not that same issue and I don't want it to get confused with that possible other leak problem. What I know to be a problem at this present time with my TC is what I was told from the previous owners. The previous owners told me that the right rear part of the roadster top has a big leak issue ... and as I mentioned in a previous thread that they had it wrap't in tape soas to avoid a leak in the transporting of the car from San Juans in Jan. this year. I think I should learn from what the members have told me to this point, apply it and then if more problems, send out another blog. ............. thanks helping team.
