1929 buick crown wheel and pinion

I am looking for help for a friend. Has any body found a late model vehicle replacement crown wheel or ring gear and pinion set that will fit into a 1929 Buick diff that would have a better ratio than the standard one.

A few questions . . . does anyone know whether all series of '29s used the same spec differential gears, even if of different ratios? Would such '29 gears interchange into '30 models (like my 44-series roadster) or even later? Assuming some cross-year interchangeability, would there be any interest out there in having a run of long-legged versions of these gears produced? Given a large enough run, the cost might be quite reasonable, judging by my experience a few years ago: a run of only four sets of '34/'35 series 40 3:55 gears resulted in a bill of about $1200.00 per set -- would have billed out at much less than that with more participation.

I have the whole rear end less the pinion gear for a 1929 80-90 series that will have a taller ratio than a standard or master series. Send me a PM with your email address and I will send photos...

Holgie: There is no "standard" crown and pinion set for the rear end of 1929 Buicks. The ratio depends on the model. You could improve on a high rear end (4.9 for 116" models and 4.636 for 121" & 129" models) with a 4.455 for 116" and 4.077 for 121" & 129" models. There is a fellow who has made high speed sets (3.5, I believe) for 121" & 129" models. PM me for his info. I have not heard of any interchange sets.

Wagga Wagga may have a pop. of 46,913 but interestingly it has a pop. of seven 1929 Buicks.
