Guest 1955olds
I cant get my temperature gauge to function. I put in a new temperature probe into the block. I got twelve volts going through the switch, into the gauge, twelve volts coming out of the gauge. When I take a wire and ground it out, the gauge barely twitches. Any thoughts, and help would be helpful.
Guest Old Codger
Are you putting anything around the threads, like plumbers tape, trying to make sure it seals? Or huckey pucking anything on the threads to try and make sure it has a good seal? DON'T.......The threads must make contact with the block to make the total electrical connection...If you're trying to seal the threads, you would be insulating the circuit.Have you taken a volt meter, and got a reading on the temp wire out at the block? Not taking a reading under the dash....How long are you waiting for the gauge to show movement when you're driving?Old Codger Edited February 13, 2015 by Old Codger (see edit history)
Guest Olds88_1956
1955oldsProbes are only the source of ground for the gauge and by grounding out the wire you have eliminating the probe.Lets troubleshoot closer to the gauge:Can you eliminate the wire to temp probe? By attaching a ground to the gauge under the dash or bench test it?Is the gauge needle free to move without any drag? Also some gauge are slow to response, did you wait a few minutes?Good luck!Olds88_1956
