Paul Falabella Posted February 3, 2015 Share Posted February 3, 2015 According to the shop manual, the steering column can be mechanically adjusted for height. Can't seem find how in the book. Bhigdog Posted February 3, 2015 Share Posted February 3, 2015 As I remember there is not a big range of adjustment. Just a fraction of an inch and it's by positioning the column bracket. Bhigdog Posted February 3, 2015 Share Posted February 3, 2015 Of course you don't have to totally remove the steering column to get lots of clearance. I think removing the floor hole pan, trans linkage, & frame bolts would let you drop the column quite a bit. buick5563 Posted February 10, 2015 Share Posted February 10, 2015 (edited) Half right. (You have two of the four). They are all 5/8" heads. old-tank Posted February 10, 2015 Share Posted February 10, 2015 Paul, the center circled bolt with the 5/8" head is the pivot bolt for adjustment...the others also with a 5/8" head are accessed through the holes in the inner fender. Paul Falabella Posted February 12, 2015 Author Share Posted February 12, 2015 The Sweet Stench(from the kerosene heater) Of Success!Moving the steering column is the only way to reinstall the lower dash without destroying new paint on the column and dash(trust me on this).The steering column can actually be moved about 3-4 inches, almost to the seat.And a little side to side.(is it any wonder the owners manual tells you to return the car to the dealer to adjust the wheel) A little tricky putting it back. I used the screw holes of the rubber toeboard as a guide while propping up the wheel.The shielded bolts from column to the lower dash go in first.(trust me on this too)A couple more wires and done.
