Guest Richard D
I was looking at prices for dexron atf and the big auto parts stores seem to carry a combination fluid that is good for dexron and mercon, I find this scarry. Plus one chain carries dexron 3 and dexron 6. I need recommendations. Many Thanks.
Guest buickkuhn
The stores have gotten confusing , they have done away with dexron 3 and now call it "DEX/MERC" . Now the dexron 4 ,5 ,6 are all available for late 90's auto's to present day auto's . I believe the Ford dealership still sell dexron 2/ mercon (thicker fluid for the older cars 50's 60's era ) . padgett
Thicker ? AFAIR Dextron III is about 20wt and makes a good hand cleaner. Used to put a quart in an old engine, run 100 miles, and change the oil. Made things nice and clean inside.Must admit I have trouble with a 0W-40. Same viscocity hot or cold ?ps thought GM went from Dextron III to Dextron VI with little pause in the muddle.
